Doing a quick google search of "bonny bonny sausage" came up with as many variants to the song as there were sites that listed it. Even that part might be a variant, it's too early for me to flex my google-fu.
Don't be disillusioned, though. I'd wished my grandfather would've been one of the cool ones like yours. The best ones always seem shrouded in mystery, and usually have at least one interesting thing to pass down the generations. All my grandfather passed down was love of thick women and hereditary baldness, it seems.

Yeah, I've since done a few google searches myself and found lots of results. I find it very amusing, I only met my Great Grandad a few times when I was a kid, but I'm told he was the funny-man-entertainer type among the family, and judging my 'our' version of the song, I'm sure he was (:
