Very Moody Series... Potential for the Greatness!
Actually, I am rating the entire series since you are putting up many of them in short times. I just wanted to stop and watch the first five before getting the idea of how well this series is going.
You sir, is my new hero and overall favorite animator next to Adam Phillips, and your on going series, The Black Bird, have the potential to become one of the Newsground's most recognized flash series.
I really really enjoy the originality of the series in term of story-telling and cinematic works as well as the strange chilling mood that instilled in each of the episode.
Your style is, in my opinion, one of the best I have ever seen. Though black-and-white artworks is nothing new, you managed to make it look absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the background are very dazzling with details and beauty of nature. Also, the style is very Un-American, which I whole-heartily approved of because I love the style that have inspirational feeling from Ancient Asia.
And you nailed very well on sound and music. I love the fact that you didn't put in too many sounds as well as using quiet soothing music and few of voice work. Those ideas actually able to convoy the feeling of chill and creepiness of the film and manages to draw me deeply into the strange world of The Black Bird. Though, the only gripe is that I wish you could make the subtitles bit bigger because I have hard time reading and looking at screen at both time, thus missing some of important key scenes.
I scored low on Violence, Interactivity, and Humor because you didnt really put in too many. But that's okay. The Black Bird series is already well made that you didn't need to add more of these. I liked some of the humor you added and the fights too. Though there is not many fights or humors in the series, but I believe that this series is about Journey, which mainly focus on the main character and his travels.
Though that this series have few of flaws (story in Chapter 4 is very hard to follow and understand), I rated this series as Perfect so far because you nailed on important elements on what make this series so fresh, entertaining, and engrossing and made it worthwhile to watch each of your Chapter. I also loved the idea of young boy with black bird (or owl, since its sounded like one?), it is very original and I love how they interact together.
Good Job. You earned a new loyal fan.
