Reviews for "Halloween Reprisal"

(O_O)

=D i like this game ^^ killing stuff meanigless *sigh* i love it im gonna give a 5 though i feel bad i have to kill them O_o but whatever it a game not real life ^^

Rammer responds:

shit, i could have sworn i responded to your review a while ago! dammit. sorry about that <_>

meaningless killing is the nectar upon which the majority of Newgrounds' user base lives on :P

Boring.

The game was just boring and repetitive. All you do is kill kids in 1/6 ways then move on to the next wave. It would have been nice to have a bit more of a storyline, or at least stick to the one you started with ( where was the magic candy? Not to mention the HUD? ). Another thing that caused a great deal of grief while playing was the detection system for killing the kids; it was just too picky, and it made the gameplay very restrictive.
But on the positive side, you had a very nice "how to play" section, and the main character looked pretty cool.
Its a good start, but it has lots of room for improvement.

Rammer responds:

understandable, thanks for the critique. we had a rather short deadline, so considering we had 3 weeks to work on this, it turned out pretty good.

the storyline was slightly altered because i was forced to take out the candy gameplay mechanic. read through my responses to other reviews to get why i had to. the HUD, i admit, was a little buggy. but it usually always came down on my computer.

as for the detection system...as you can see, the deaths in this game are very animation-driven. if i had made the hitbox wider, the animations (since they were in separate movieclips...maybe a bad move on my part) would have been out of sync with eachother, and some depend on being close so you can see them properly.

thanks for the critique (: i guess we both know now that Blaze kicks ass at "how to" sections :P

I didn't like it.

It's just too simple for me. Even if your intention wasn't to make a challenging game, it's pretty boring to just walk around and kill kids.

Rammer responds:

it wasn't my intention to make it boring. it was supposed to be challenging, but the AI got screwed up at the last minute, and i had to take it out.

one of 4

++ I like the stylised lines of blood.

++ Varied kills.

+++ Lovely font. What is it? Looks very Tim Burton-esque with the crazy curled serifs.

- In 'how to play', we should be able to move forward screens if we want.

------ Exceedingly repetitive.

You could have maybe allowed us to just walk past the children? I felt bad for hurting them mercilessly.

The 'game' basically just involves walking to identical targets, wherupon we activate one of 4 'kill animations'. No risk of loss. No tactics. Just activating the same animations over and over and over...

I was quite relieved when it was over.

Really, to even qualify as a real game, this needed a rethink.

Rammer responds:

): a 3? it might be repetitive, but i don't think this deserves a 3.

i do understand where you're getting at, and me and Blaze did have better plans for this, but we ran out of time and had to take out certain features that would have given this any challenge.

also, if you had read the "how to play" section a little better, you'd know there were 7 "kill animations", which probably would have made this slightly less repetitive for you. 'up + z', 'up + x', and 'z' when the kids are walking away from you.

So what is the KEY to hold down?!
