Reviews for "The Halloween Hunt"

Not bad, but painful if you aren't careful

I mainly speak here in hopes of aiding those who plan to play this sometime after I have.

Tip A is utter crap, considering that increasing your battle level makes enemies tougher at a faster pace than it strengthens your character. I do admit that I needed to raise it, but level 4 was high enough.

Tips B & D are unnecessary. All the more skills you'll ever need are Haunted (for 1-hit random battles) and Overdrive.

Tip E will do nothing more than make your playing experience a living nightmare, since enemies gain vitality from this at a pace far greater than your character does.

I finished the game with:
Battle Level 4
Power 14
Vitality 7
Mana 15
Magic 14

Once I reached the final battle, having only needed 2 blows to finish my foe off, I see now that I didn't truely need enough mana for 3 attacks. (200 per Overdrive, 600 mana from BL 4 x M 15)

Yo, you couldda gave better direCtionz......

This is a nice game, but could have ALOT of work put into it. For instance, if the game didn't piss me off so much it would be a more enjoyable experience. Here are some examples:

What made me fed up about this game is the fact that it takes so long to level up and increase your stats. It's just so tedious and repetative. Also, there is no reason to level up because (sure, your stats go higher) but your enemies stats go even higher than yours! Therefore leveling up only benefits your enemies.

I hated how you would get 20 coins in one battle and 300 in the next. Make each individual enemy dispense seperate amounts of coins and different health and strenght levels so the 'escape from battle' button would have a point.

That brings me to my next point. The menu. This is what probably made me the angriest (no wait, that was the difficulty. But we'll get to that later). The set up of the menu was awful. I seemed to have gotten into the habbit of pressing the same buttons to kill my enemies but every once in a while, I would accidentaly hit the 'escape from battle' button and run from the match which would either result in me not running, getting hit, and dieing or running away and having to fight the battle all over again. Put the run away button somewhere else away from the rest of the menu (like on the other side of the screen).

Now, to the difficulty curb. In the first two sections of the game, I was fine and dandy until I hit the boss in the dark woods. It took so much training and so much patients to build up my character just for me to die because the boss can hit like, 1300 in one hit. What made me even angrier is that he can do this twice or more in a row (He could damage you fatser than you could heal). If your going to make the boss take half your health away in one hit, make it so that it's a special attack that can only be preformed once every few turns. I found myself quitting the game because of the 3rd boss. A better thing to do is to make the difficulty gradually get higher instead of it going straight up and leaving you making a long review on how much it made you angry.

I understand that this had to be made on a deadline, but i'm still going to review it as I would any game. Feel free to re-submit this with all of (or just some. If you fix one, it will fix another i.e. If upgrades cost less, the boss wont have to be made easier) these problems fixed, I'm sure it would be a great game (as far as I know. I only got the the third stage).

Thank you for reading and please don't point out the fact that I don't know how hard making a functional game is on flash because I haven't made one. I do know how hard it is to make a game and I respect you for having the patients and skill to make a game as good as this. I didn't mean to put your game down. What I meant to say is that with a little fine tweaking this game could be better.

Good game, but it could have been alot better

I thought this game was rather enjoyable, it had an interesting premise and the main character looks pretty spiff. But in my opinion there were just a few things here and there that held the game back a bit. One of the main issues, that was touched upon before by other reviewers, is the money system. After a while it got pretty ridiculous to gain $1000 from one enemy only to fight him again and gain $18. This only served to make the already bothersome leveling system even more of a cumbersome task. It took so long near the end of the game for me to get my stats up high enough to be able to beat that final boss, especially since I have to fight battle after battle just to increase one stat. Another small gripe would be the monsters encountered in this game. Now I'm not going to jump on you for using enemies from Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire, I actually found them to be a nice reference. But what did bug me a little about the enemies is that you encounter the same ones in every area. Like I said earlier this is a minor gripe, but it would be a nicer touch to have specific enemies in the different areas.

Over all this was an awsome game and I found it alot of fun. I think you should seriously consider doing a sequal for Halloween of '07.

Not bad... not bad at all

Wonderful game!
Just liked it.
I hope you make another soon.

nice

I liked the style of the game. The graphics were very well done as well as the great halloween colors. I enjoyed the long, but repetitive gameplay despite a few little problems with the menu, and enemy leveling up as you level up. Great game Ludy! Enjoyed it a lot- Drz
