Not Too Shabby
Altered Reality is a pretty decent collab. There have been some crappy ones lately, and this isn't one of them.
For the most part, the graphics and the animations are well done. The style is perfect (only 'cause I like robots trying to kill stuff.). The sound is great, with a killer track. Good interactivity with the menu, and the extras.
Overall... Not too shabby.
Blending
There are not that many collaborations that keep to a storyline, and that's the main issue I have. It's hard to grasp. It's more of a class project that has a theme than anything else. It is more of a common collaboration; which is nothing more unique than anything else. Henceforth, that's why the style and overall is so low.
Graphically, it was ok. Some of the flash artists are a little below skill than the others, but overall, graphically, there was nothing I really had to complain about. It wasn't anything special. It started and ended good, but there were a couple of sections where the flash seems amateurish.
The violence seems very typical. Ok, and expected but nothing special.
I liked how the sound and sound effects meshed with the overall flash. There was a lot of work put into the ambience, which makes this collaboration a "nice action adventure" to watch.
Again, this is one of the flashes where the overall concepts of the flash gives it a low score, but the flash work itself as a whole would score it higher. It's unique, but it feels very copied, as its style is very similar to other flashes on Newgrounds and the net.
Animatrix...
Only not as good. I didn't think it was worth the file size. Some of it was, and I realize that this was a group project, but it seems that some of the group didn't hold up their end. Some of the animation was choppy and sub-par. Sorry, but it just wasn't as impressive as it should have been.
Outstanding view
I found the sound a bit monotimous, it would of been sweet if it would of been a timed sound sequence. Other then that it was great! Notice to the future.....Do not give toasters lasers.
Why am I not impressed?
Oh no, robotic mayhem. Everybody run and whatnot. Why is it that even though the description states the robots are more advanced than humans, none of the robots ever kill anyone? What's so advanced about robots missing every target? 'What if robots were more advanced than their makers'... were the robots made by dogs or something?
The animation was pretty mediokre. Some of the drawings were good, but the animation throughout was lacking. I hate collabs to begin with, but none of the parts really shined over any other. The music was good, but that's all that was good about this flash. The animation didn't sync well with the music and overall it was pretty lackluster. The action wasn't any good either, just a bunch of anime-ish jumps and clumbsy ass robots that can't aim worth shit. That or bullets in this cartoon's reality don't really hurt.
As you can tell, I'm a bit biased against collabs anyway, but even if this wasn't a collab, it would need some serious work to be any good. Nice attempt at least... I guess.
