Reviews for "The StarCraft Reporter"

good flash artist, bad topic

right, so through making this what have u achieved? u would argue that u wanted to show a parady of this computer game; however, i never understand why people with the ability to make such movies would waste their time. U could easily create something far better, more artisic, metaphoric, meaningful and memorable than this.

so u play "StarCraft", so how is that a basis to create a flash about it? does it mean that much to u? because i'm sure it doesn't mean anything to viewers like me. i chose to watch this flash because i thought it would give me an insight into the game, and thus why people r addicted to it. it didn't provide this at all. all it did was bask in its own glory, sure u described what the races/ people did, but only as a parody - aiming to players of the game themselves.

as a flash artist u also need to sell ur movie to the audience (ie. me). therefore, if u make another flash, make sure u make the topic of the flash accessible to a wider audience. (without insulting religions or people in the process - that part was terrible).

i think u could better with flash. not in terms of graphics, but in terms of topic and style. this flash was a waste of time, perhaps mirroring such online games as Warcraft, Starcraft, CSS etc.

Sigh.

A cartoon that is bad to Legendary Frog proportions.
Bland simplistic character design. Characters that are tweened line-tool-drawn symbols that look and move like they are puppets. And some teenagers recording themselves into a microphone.

I mean, the concept is good. But the execution is not. The moment I heard "Smegol Loves Stimpack" I actually cringed. Not only because, up to that point the voice acting had no emotion and effort, but also because it was just a horrible smeagol impression.

Some of the shading on the characters and backrounds was nice. But overall this is yet another average "hey look how original we are its a video game parody please laugh at it" flash.

I wish people would just find better ways of animating characters. Honestly. Putting lots of symbols on a layer and tweening them about looks like crap. It just does. It makes your characters look dead. Legs and arms dont just swing around on hinges.

There's a reason why artists like Andrew Kepple's and Adam Phillip's and Weebl's cartoons look so nice visually. Its because rather than simply building a character out of parts and peices, they actually study the way a person moves and acts and exaggerate it for their animation, which makes it look like the characters are alive.

On another note, I realize humor is relative. But really, if whoever wrote the script cant come up with anything more creative than cliched obvious references to Lord of the Rings, and video games, then he/she is really a lost cause. It IS possible to make a cartoon funny without resorting to referencing things people are familiar with or parodising something people goof all the time. But then, I doubt you care or understand.
Heck, If you even know who Chuck Jones or Genndy Tartakovsky are I'd be mighty surprised. As this flash shows all the signs of someone who hasnt ever seen a cartoon in their life.

And that, is my review. Good day.

Should have taken the concept

And actually produced something GOOD. Believe it or not but when you can't think of anything funny to say you can't expect to hide this by including some shots of people getting hurt or falling over or things breaking and assume no one will notice. You've basically tried to recreate an episode of Funniest Home Video's in poorly drawn flash and made it worse by trying to tie this in with a videogame theme. There was plenty of opportunity to actually create something atleast mildly amusing in this idea but instead you decided some incoherent rambling mixed with a little slapstick would suffice. I mean if it was really SOO hard to think of much material for it, couldn't you atleast have made it shorter to cover what you HAD rather than extending it beyond that?

Uhh.... okay

What ticks me off most about this animation is how you have to apologize to every Muslim about the sound alike of Aiur to Allah, yet you do no such thing when you make fun of red necks. You’re bowing down to fear, though you’re seemingly not afraid of terrorists as given by the message so why are you apologizing? Afraid of hurting someone’s feelings? Are you serious? This film was blah all around, there just was nothing really funny and I’m sure many over zealous fan boys have jacked it up just because it deals with Starcraft. The best part of the whole flash was the high on life part, which was pretty funny. You have drawing talent, you just aren’t funny.

It COULD have been funny.

But that allah-thing was COMPLETELY unnecessary.
