And to all those people who pointed out that Snape's father is a muggle, well, it's not really magic, it's just tricking someone so you can jump them. So it's hardly important.
I dug out my French copy of HP the other day and to my amusement they had translated Slytherin into "Serpentard". It makes a surprisingly good insult.
