It's astonishing how some people can be totally ignorant of the difference between creative combination of elements from different sources as an intertextual tribute or parody VS "ripping off", "stealing", and shit like that. I'm talking about some of the commentors here, not the author.
I believe pretty much everyone viewing this film is aware of what the Llama song is, and that this vid is based on it (especially since it's said in the description), and where the Badgers come from. Otherwise they're just being ignorant and it's the online equivalent to believing in Santa and the Easter Bunny. If someone is that... childish then they can discover it themselves. There's NO need for people to get all upset about someone "misleading" people into believing that for example the author of Badger Song would also have invented the Badgers and the Llama song, since that's certainly not the case. They're called INTERTEXTUAL references and the more you can stuff them into a movie, the better it fits in the fabric of Internet. If someone doesn't get that then they're almost as stupid as the n00bs believing in Santa Claus and tooth fairy.
The primary reason for ranting is that I also made a parody of the Llama song once, inspired by this Badger song and the Sawyer song and the ABS song and the Dalek song and the Myra song, I think those are the only ones published. It got shot down in about half an hour, partially because the voice was out of synch but primarily because of assholes who do not know the difference between creative usage and plagiarism. So it's kinda comforting an at the same time sad to notice that other authors have gone through the same shit.
When a person posts to a place like Newgrounds, they are not trying to harm the original author - a new version of something you LOVE is a TRIBUTE to the original author / authors. And even though song parodies must naturally follow the same tune and structure as the original one to be recognized as parodies, the Badger song includes lots of original work (well, I don't think the author photographed those badgers himself, but searching for them, selecting the ones to use and finding rhymes to match counts as creative work). Something like the Badgers, Gary Brolsma's Numa Numa, All your base and so forth are kinda like the Internet equivalents for Mona Lisa and American Gothic and Edvard Munch's Scream - something so famous that they have become communal property. If someone tries to make a copy of Mona Lisa and sell it as the original, that's forgery, but if someone takes a poster and draws moustache on it, that's parody. The same goes here.
I remember when I first saw this flick, I considered it offensive and immature that it says "yes you are an idiot/ you are made of poo" but nowadays it's just funny. And much milder compared to "motherfucker weve got guns" in a certain other funny flick.
