Reviews for "Runaway Kart"

quite enjoyable.

I love games like this, my whole life of dodging things have finally come useful.

A few suggestions.

Whoever designed the castle insides, are the craziest people ever! Who builds 400 towers at random will!? Heh, I know this was just randomly generated obstacles as you move along, but I would have liked to see some hardcoded obstacles, like in the castles, near the end, why not have like a wall of the towers on both sides you know.

I would have liked to see the soldiers move a tad, maybe even jump in front of you (they said stop right, so DAMN IT BOYS, STOP HER!)

Finished it in both modes, enjoyed it. Good job Den.

Unfortunately CPU restrictions disallowed any sprite animation - CTRL-ALT-DEL and watch the TaskManager while you're playing, and you'll see what I mean.

Could possibly have had more varied sprites I suppose, if I ever make a v2 of this (which I won't) I'll consider adding more LOL

Great game!

First up I'd like to say that this a truly great game. It is well made with excellent graphics, sound and almost endless playability once the scoreborad gets a bit more competetive. In particular the cut scenes are excellent, giving a really god sense of story often absent in games, as well as being short so as not to distract from the most important element, the game play.

However, I can't help but feel it is a little repetetive, especially in the story mode, where each and every level is pretty much the same as the last, with the only difference being in the shape of what you are avoiding. Although done extremely well, after a while it does get a little tedious, and makes playing it again a bit of a chore if you die near the end (as I did).

Secondly, I feel that this would have had an extremely good shout at daily first on pretty much any day, except today!! Releasing it the same day as Red Riding Hood, by Granfaloon, may have been a mistake, though I guess you aren't doing this for the awards, rather for the enjoyment of making flash games.

In short, excellent, though your games pretty much always are!

5/5

Denvish responds:

Yeah, it was the first time for me in terms of 'proper' cutscenes. I found it extremely time-consuming, but I think it's worth it, and credit due to Ani-x (SeoulSnake) for making some pretty damn cool animations.

I have to agree about repetitiveness, to a certain extent. I would have liked to add a bit more variety. But after working on this for 3+ weeks, I was just sick of looking at the code (mostly bug-killing) over the past few days. Maybe I will make something else based on the same engine at some point, or rework the engine so it's less CPU-demanding, and can therefore add more graphical and gameplay options.

I have to admit I expected the score on this to have sunk to ~3.5 on its way through judgement, but I'm very happy and grateful to the voters that it's stuck around 4.0 (so far). I'm certainly not expecting any awards, with it being a Tuesday, but I'm not going to complain if the game gets one =)

Thanks very much for taking the time to type out such an in-depth review.

too much repetition

everything was great but it gets boring way too fast, otherwise ud get a 10

Cool... but

The game was a lot of fun, the only thing i didn't like is that in survival mode the blue orbs don't seem to work, no invincibility. Also, why doesn't the scoreboard work? And the pause button definitly needs to be moved. I didn't want to lose all my points when i had to go eat, but just trying to find the P got me killed! Change it to the spacebar or something easy to find while keeping your eyes on the screen. Besides that, it's pretty cool.

i randomly scored, but that doesnt mean it was goo

dude, to many obsicals.

Denvish responds:

Why don't you score it based on the actual game then///?
