Reviews for "Freedom {durn}"

definitely feeling this.

My dad passed away this December too, so I can definitely feel where you're going with this.
My favourite part has to be where it kicks it real low at 00:47, and the melody just turns so sick at 1:16 - love that.

The 9 is for those distorted guitar chords-- they just threw me off at first, however when it breaks after that clap it worked out nicely ;) Keep doing whatcha do!

durn responds:

:) Thanks Christa. Glad it all struck a chord. ;) -totally- pun intended! oh, oh, I slay myself. :d hmm.. on second thought, that's not that funny. :P which is why I stick to music and not comedy. :)

my condolences on your loss, man.

tight

have to agree with zekee even though it wouldnt be my first choice of style this is an amazingly polished sounding track with hints of daft punk

respect

durn responds:

:) Thanks Fums. I tried hard to get the sound crisp on this one. :)

Groovy

Like the EFX on the beginning organ, flanger/cutoff, its smooth, the drums are crisp, seems like good progression, the bass is fitting and not overpowering, the second organ ties in with with the first, good melody, the break with (what sounds like) a guitar with some FX is a little unfitting to me, But what you bring in right after it makes up for it, The guitar comes back, but it ties in with the little travelling synth you have in the background, From here it pretty much repeats with variance within itself from 3:30 onwards, The ending is nothing amazing neither bad in any way, It is still loopable.

If there was anything to change it would be some very minor FX tweaks and drumwork, but it is great as is.

durn responds:

Thanks for the solid review, Tykwa. :) I suppose the break might not be for everybody but I was tryin' somethin' different with it in terms of effects manipulation. glad you liked it otherwise.

Interesting

Its clearly you, but much mellower than im used to from you, it has the same feel as some of your other songs and your definatly improved your transitions since you created rain but it suffers some of the repetitiveness that appears in most of your work. repetition is only good if its built upon not if you keep looping back to it, straying a bit away and then returning once again it makes the song rather uninteresting to listen to by the end of the song id felt like id listened to the whole thing a few times already i actually had to check and make sure it hadent looped on me already or i hit the refresh button without knowing it. You should be conscientious of repetition and how often you use it in your songs because its getting a little out of hand buddy. I want to emphasize that i don't NOT like the song I just think you can do far better than this because you have an ear for music and what sounds good and talent with your synthesizer? i'm not sure what you used to create this so i apologize for my ignorance i know very little about music other than what i like about it and what i do not. Keep what i say in mind and know that i like your music i just feel without me being brutally honest about what i think there is no reason for my to review your works.
-Your Fan? Evintine

durn responds:

:) Thanks, Evintine. And yeah, originally this was going to be just a 3 minute song. I intentionally repeated it because I felt the bridge deserved a second breath of life with the new organ lead melody.

There are quite a few differences between the two halves though. All the automation of the filters is different and a new guitar lick of soft-picking and slap is introduced. I tried to keep it subtle though. :D guess too subtle for some people's tastes though. :d

glad you liked it enough to pick it apart so much, Evintine. :) thanks for the review, mate.

Good

It's a good song, it's catchy if you're listening to it, because if you're just hearing this as background music, it seems it's a modern lounge tune. If this is the case, then repetitiveness is not an issue, otherwise...
Well done.

PS: My condolences...

durn responds:

:) thanks tomtom. catchy and laid-back is definitely how I like to roll. :)
