Reviews for "Rotting Onslaught"

Wicked!!!

What a brilliant game, I've quite enjoyed playing it.

gavD responds:

Thank you ColonelSnake! At times I enjoyed writing it, at times I was ready to grind my computer into dust with my bare hands! This game is VERY complicated in the back end, I hope to streamline the engine for future releases.

DUNE 2 FOREVER

Afirmative. Reporting. Moving out. Yes Sir?

Thanks for bringing back some great memories. :-)

gavD responds:

Nice one Jane! It was Command and Conquer for me, I never played Dune 2, but I remember reading reviews for it.

Good Job :P

I got to admit, this is a really fun strategy game here dude! :)

The Giant Spider was really cool :P It really surprised me when it popped out of nowhere and started eating one of my snipers.. good job he came out alive :P

Heres some suggestions I'll put forward:

If you REALLY want to get creepiness up, do a Giant Spider level, it's a Spider hunt, and guess what? A city is nearby which is holding the Undead at bay, but if the Queen attacks, then it's all over for them, and they will become dribbling Undead, so, you have to kill the Queen beforehand, and then the other Spiders will be disentoriated enough so that they can be picked off :P

Giant Spiders could also have a ranged attack that uses acid, and also it should have a web ability that treats everything around it like rough terrain (except for the Spider and other Spiders).

Saying this, it could be very good if you had events, for example, you CAN complete a mission yes, but if you fail, you've got to live with it. Victorious missions bring good things, while Falied missions bring the opposite (penalties or more Zombies, etc). It would be "Good Work, hurry to the Evac zone!" While Failing would be "Damn! Mission Failed! Abort! Abort!".

Also, another thing would be to introduce things to upgrade your weapons. Occassionally you could pick up certain items that could improve your weapons (like say you went in a Gun Shop in a city and found a silencer, for example) emphasising the lack of equipment that "your all alone and you have to make do with what's at hand". Don't introduce the concept of food or water for the survival, that's too complex. But another would be a morale system (soldiers panicing for example). Examples include:

When a member is more than 3m away from his unit, morale drops as he is left alone.
Death of a soldier (Sergeants if dead give more morale loss).
When a soldier is chewed on a Zombie (screams lose morale).

Morale can be increased by:

Finding Stim-Packs, painkillers for example.
Killing Zombies.
Rejoining units.
Waiting for a bit, it recovers over time.

When morale drops to a certain point, you lose control of the certain individual in the unit and:

If moral drops below 60% You hear crying on the sound, he will automatically attack any Zombie while staying put.

If his morale is reduced to 0 for a long time he may suicide (amounts of Zombies also contribute to this). Panicing will make him stand still.

If his morale goes below 40% Soldier goes beserk, starts firing admirably.

If it gets back to above 90%, hes back under your control. Sergeants increase morale by shouting the hell at him.

If in any cases the morale of the soldier is not in panic mode, he will try to make it back to the Evac zone.

This really reminds me of a "Kill Team", commando type units. Perhaps, as a suggestion, after a while, your normal soldiers after fighting the undead become commandos-special forces through being promoted. You are then given jobs to eliminate key points or defend key things (such as defending an individual). Perhaps they get promoted over time, and you develop a close bond between the troops :P (like in X-Com).

Have soldiers when under extreme or under Zombie attack shout or sob, it really brings atmosphere.

Have soldiers when they die from Zombies they get up as one of the Dead.. woooooo.

Oh yes and like other people said, add Tanks, Helicopters and the like :P.

This seems like a game that can be really improved to a full potential, Good Job :P.

gavD responds:

The morale concept is very strong, and something that was considered during development (e.g. panic mode, scatter)

At the end of the day, though, I went for a relatively simple game. It showcases the engine and is effective in its own right as a survival horror game.

AWSOME

the graphics might've not been great but it is addicting, the story mode is fun but it gets boring after awhile, and the surrvival mode was awsome my high score was 1011 but it got boring after awhile so i just quit, all in all it was awsome
