Fun game, once you figure out the trick to it.
This game was a lot of fun once I figured out the trick to winning. The game is EXTREMELY frustrating at first because there is no instruction on how to use the power ups: they are cumulative, and you can power up three times per turn, or power up twice and perform another action.
Sound is excellent; I'd have rated it higher but there is neither a volume control nor a mute button.
Game Tips:
- The sword you get determines the maximum damage possible per attack. I have not found anything higher than Crippled Blade, which allows 5000 per attack.
- Put points in magic stat and HP as needed. You can easily finish the game with 10 Str and Def and 100 MP.
- Put skill points in Enchanted Guardian, which increases your magic power up, until you max the skill at 15. Then put at least 8 points in Osmose, which will let you cast cure and strike for free.
- Power up your magic three times per turn, stopping to cure yourself if you take too much damage. After you can deal maximum damage with the Strike spell, just attack and cure.
- Stay in the Hills until you're ready to go after the big boss, then work your way up through each level. You can easily reach level 100 in the hills.
- Once the monsters can heal more than you can do in damage in a single turn, you'll want to learn the Meltdown skill. This keeps them from getting incredibly powered up while you whittle them down. You can still take them out because they forget to heal themselves from time to time. (Don't even think about running them out of mana, by this time they have thousands of MP.)
- Your HP will max out at 10000. This is effectively the only real limit on advancement: I quit at level 194 because even the bandits in The Hills could do 10,000 damage in a single round. (The Hills bandit at L194 has 47,800HP and 11950MP, and can heal himself 5975 points up to twice per turn.)
All in all, a most enjoyable game. Better instructions would earn it a much higher ranking.
