Kickass

This is possibly the best game I've played on newgrounds to date. Keep up the good work man.

LISTEN.

I know your going to be reading this review eventually--and I've gotta let you know, it's pissing me the hell off. The bosses are frustrating as hell--and that one hit kill that stage three guy has is absolutely maddening. Normally I would just X the window and move on with my life, but something keeps pulling me back to give this game another shot. So yes--the game sucks, but only in the best of ways.

Awesome work.

(I hate you.)

sspecter responds:

LOL thanks man. Sorry you are having so hard time. I myself like hard games (I get so pleased when I beat it). Maybe this is why the game got too hard. I didnt knew that ppl would think the game was too hard. I should have made an easier mode, and maybe some checkpoints.

Oh, well. It will have to wait then i have more time :(

A fun game

I really liked playing this... spent more than an hour, which is a lot for a flash game. Upgrading was fun, the sound was nice and the storyline was interesting. Most Raiden-like games have no story to speak of, so it was a great thing to include. The levels were well designed as well. I got frustrated because I needed to keep replaying prior levels just so I could upgrade and stand a chance in the next level. Some attacks were so powerful that all they needed to do was hit me once and I'd die. The boss of the third stage was especially annoying because I needed to be directly in front of him to hit with my weapon, and he'd kill me in one hit with his very fast diving attack. The other weapons were weak in comparison to the normal, upgraded weapon so I felt like I needed to stick to that weapon just to be effective. Also, he numbers on the right of the screen were really only visible if you had the game on the highest quality setting. The last problem I'd like to point out is that it was hard to get the coins sometimes. I'd go right through them sometimes and have to double back.

Some of the best programming ever seen in a flash

To begin, I have to tell you I'm being slightly generous because I didn't have the tenacity to go through the entire game. What I did see, however, was great! The controls were a cross between Space Invaders and Asteroids without the aggrivation. There was also something original thrown in there I couldn't put my finger on. As far as flash games go, this was outstanding. The art and animation seemed pretty lame but your programming skill made up for it. I've never seen any kind of AI really used in a game (not well, anyway) but lo and behold, my friends fly out in front of me and throw a volley of shots without being completely useless! The backgrounds are busy with action and don't make me feel alone in the universe with nothing better to do than fire random scrolling enemies. There's a full scale galactic war going on around me. The perspective was cool but when I saw those two ships fighting close to the camera, they were still under me and because of the perspective, it just looked like a really big pair of ships. However, you put a lot of effort into this and I hope you continue to improve on your already tremendous flash programming skill and creativity. Next time, just try to get some more interesting visuals... It's easier to appreciate.

Is it just me?

I thought the game was great. Definitely a classic 2-D fighter pilot shooter game you've made. I had a problem with lag though, even when I placed it on low, which is odd. This caused me to die too many times to a point where I just gave up on the Mothership level. Either way, great game.
