Reviews for "Happy Three Years, Fred!"

Alright.

No problem in the simplicity, look a things like south park to see that success can come from that, i havnt seen fredthemonkeydotcom nor am i compelled to by any means but im sure you they do pretty well, it all kinda reminded me of homestar in the slightest degree though, and that concerns me.
Good effort nonetheless

JKR responds:

Yes, simple cartoons can indeed be popular. I suppose FredtheMonkey.com is doing pretty well, as you said. Still trying to make it better though. It's tough to do anything TOO complex (animation wise) since I try to put out a cartoon every week for people to watch on the site. And similarities with Homestar are probably left over from three years ago, when the site was very much like HSR, but since I think it has grown to its own place on the web and become much different.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a review and comments!

Great all ages movie

Boring? Useless humor....ahh come on. Half the stuff here can be placed in that catagory if you tried hard enough. Why don't people appreciate the simple stuff anymore? I suppose those peeps want a flash movie requiring the latest vid card or some dumb crap. Anyhoo...I likes it....

JKR responds:

Thanks for the review. I guess some people just find other things humorous. I try to keep the violence to a minimum and the language funny without too much R rated material so that, like you said, it can be a "Great all ages movie". =)
But I know some people prefer the deeper, violent Flash animations for their source of humor. Luckily Newgrounds has both types availible in mass quantities!
Anyway, glad you enjoyed the cartoon!

it was boring.

really.useless humor.

JKR responds:

Well sorry to hear you felt that way. I'll work harder on the jokes for next time. Hope you find something you enjoy more somewhere else on Newgrounds!

Original and fresh.

This was a very comical cartoon! I really enjoyed the dialogue between these characters as it was quite fresh. Your use of the line and pen tool provides a very clean look. The only few things that I can comment on was the a small line by Fred the monkey "ate the cake" which sounded a bit uneven and the missing arms of the penguins(?). Neverless, this was one very enjoyable short and I offer my congrats on your 3 year success. Thats definitely an accomplishment to be proud of!

JKR responds:

Hey, thanks for the well written and thoughtful review! I agree with you, the "I ate that cake" Fred line was a bit off. I recorded it several times, but I guess I should have tried to get it better still. And the "penguins" are actually aliens called "space chickens" who use telekinetic powers and have no arms. Everyone thinks they're penguins though. =)
Thanks again for the review!

Great!

As your biggest fan, I feel obligated to leave a review....Great Job! However, I dunno if I'm not used to it or something, but I kinda liked it better when the space chickens bounced up and down when they talked. Probably just me, though. Love your stuff!

JKR responds:

=)
Yes, fans of Space Chicken and Sceb have already begun to voice their concerns with having the space chickens no longer hop up and down. Believe me, I understand. It took me a while to get used to it too! I hope in time you'll grow to like the mouth movements just as much as the ol' jumping. Having the mouths move opens up a whole new level of animation, so I think the change will be worth it! Thanks for the feedback, and review, I appriciate it!
