Reviews for "Hurricanes & Tidal Waves"

Potential to be had

You guys got a shit-ton of potential, but the power of your instruments needs some serious work. Namely your trombone, which falls flat of the mark, and instead of sounding upbeat it actually almost sounds depressing. Give it some more power and this song will be three notches higher.

HyruleanHyroe responds:

I hear you. We're still finding our niche recording-wise. Also, our trombone player has since parted ways with the rest of the band, so that's not an issue any more. :P

not ska

Definitely NOT ska music.

HyruleanHyroe responds:

Emphasis on offbeat, walking bassline, ska chords, brass line...what are we missing, sir? If you wouldn't mind messaging us, I'd like to know specifically what is 'ska' to you so that we might incorporate some of it in the future. We're all about improvement, you know.

Just please tell me you're not one of those 'Streetlight Manifesto is real Ska' kids...:/

needs a little work, sorry if sound like an azz.

It's okay, it's little off the offbeat (?!) at the beginning and the bass is soooo boring. It's ska punk man! Kick it up!

HyruleanHyroe responds:

I know I wasn't able to sync up the beginning perfectly, and I'm sorry you don't care for the Bass part . I kinda like it. :'( However, you should know that this isn't Ska Punk. We have never claimed to be, tried to be, or wanted to be Ska Punk. I really don't think it sounds much like Ska Punk. We do like playing some faster stuff, but speed is far from one of the defining factors of Ska. Original Ska was actually some of the slowest, grooviest music around. We usually think of ourselves as two-tone/progressive Ska.

Good music to sleep to

The music is boring. It's been done. It's not to say you aren't talented musicians, you just don't know what to do with it.

Don't be so safe, be as daring as you can. When I hear a new band that sticks with me and makes me want to get them on my Ipod as soon as I can, it's because they do something I've never heard before. Even if it's just a small change, it's refreshing. Don't be afraid to do something that might sound awful. You never know, it could be the next big thing.

HyruleanHyroe responds:

Oooooooh, just you wait until we finish recording Death Jazz. Believe you me, we're pushing ourselves as much as we can, and over the last year there has been an unbelievable improvement in our sound and musical facility. Never doubt that we're always doing our best to improve and innovate. The only issue is that we really only recently found ourselves as a Ska band. Every song's better than the last one, though. Keep an eye out! ;P
