Offering and Asking Help

This game seems good so far. I am currently stuck on the 11th level where you have to kill the "Warp Fighters"; people have written that they have achieved higher levels so I assume it is not impossible, but I have been failing this level for over a week now.

I play this game at its hardest level, as I do every game, so the best weapon I have available for this mission is the Mark I Laser. I am experiencing several problems, one of which should be fixable with little argument.

That one is the designation of the spacebar for firing: A number of keyboards have a problem with the prolonged use of this key, especially when combined with other keys like the arrow keys; the upshot is that my fire will give out, usually at just the wrong moment. This can be easily fixed by designating the Control or A button for firing.

The second problem I have is that it seems impossible to reach the $170 mark on this mission. In a week the closest I have gotten is $156. I even played a “perfect game” in which I killed every single enemy ship it was physically possible for me to hit, without dieing once, and only got $140. My problems, aside from that listed above, are as follows:

1. The ship is too big. The play area is far too small for such a large ship, and rather unfair when you consider that you have to strike the middle third of the B Fighter to destroy it, but any damage to any visible part if your ship spells instant death.

2. The ship is too slow. This, combined with the ridiculous size of the ship, makes dodging enemy fire almost impossible. If a Warp Fighter fires one of his fast shots, even from a far corner, and you just happen to be in its path, forget it, you’re dead. Fast bullets are not that bad if you can predict their path, as with the M Turrets, but from unpredictable angles it is just cruel.

I see three possible solutions: Make the ship smaller, or faster, or stop firing from unpredictable angles.

3. The ship is too slow. The second part of this particular problem is from the offensive angle. Using a slow firing straight shot weapon; and I can find no other useful weapon for this level; means it is very often physically impossible to hit enemies on far sides of the screen. Every time I play this level there will be at least one instance in which I travel to one side of the screen to shoot one Warp Fighter only to see half a dozen pass through the opposite corner; not twirling around or firing, just passing through that half inch of space and then disappearing for good. Each battle is randomly generated, so there is no way to predict ahead of time when you should go for the ship in the far corner and when not. I think it not insignificant that the closest I have come to beating was by a margin of a half-dozen ships.

Solutions: Make the ship faster, or make the warp fighters more delicate so that something like the machine gun or sign wave weapon can be used to cover a larger area; this would make this level still challenging and interesting because it would be almost impossible to kill the B Fighters meaning you would have to kill an even greater percentage of Warp Fighters, while dodging the B Fighter juggernauts. Since the Warp Fighters in this level are prototypes it would still make sense to increase their strength to normal for later missions.

Other solutions: Change the behavior of the ships so that they don’t skip through the top corner of the screen never to be seen again; increase the number of ships in this mission, or decrease the goal amount of $170.

As I said before, I understand that it is possible to beat this level as is and I would appreciate any tips or advise anyone can offer on how to do it, perhaps I needed to save up money for a particular weapon upgrade or something? Any help would be appreciated.

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

If you read carefully, hard mode decreases the ships speed, and at level 50 you get a speed increase. Easy mode has a ship I think twice as fast.

Plus, the maximum amount of money you can get on that mission is I think $300

Lazer should be suffecient, but keep in mind I never tested the game on hard mode, so I suggest you try normal.

Would have five'd

...if the last boss wasnt so goddamn tedious to fight.

Other than that, good game (4)

Awsome

Cool game, the black and white style is not common but you made it worth it. Now someone try to beat my score.

Exellent!

cool game but... it gets boring after a while with levels but still... cool game
