Finally the hardstyle piece!

First of all, I love the intro feeling classical with an dark atmosphere created by the strings at the background, continueing whilst there is starting a heavy lead to blast. :D Loving the melody, it's really awesome fits hardstyle at it's max. Only hoped that the kicks would be pushed in earlier aprox arround (1:01) Because it gets an really empty feeling at that point. Perhaps something else would fit in nice too pad/bass/arp or alike. :) It's up to you, I know you always got some great tricks to finish this up it alwas gets better and better.

Mix performance:
Damn that piano is hot! Crystal clear, and those strings in the background got blended away perfect! Kick+bass is really perfect for this style, it's not blowing away everything but it's still pumping and loud and that's just the way a kick should be. You did some great mixing here so far. I would only suggest make the kick+lead a little bit louder or more pounding, it's a personal suggest though. I like loud leads and kicks in hardstyle. ^^

So far so good for this demo this could be an hit just like The Beginning and I am not kidding. Keep it up and give it your own personal twist as always, then it's going to be mindblowing!

(sorry for this short review, I am always bad at demo's/Wip's) ;P
Be ready for a huge full devined review, when it's done. ;)

Dj-Brand0 responds:

Hey Ian :D

Glad you liked this. The dark atmosphere was what I was trying to get at here.
You said the kicks should have been pushed to about 1:01, I purposely made that section really empty because I wanted the lead to be the main focus.

Like first I had the classical instruments (pianos, pads, synths, etc) then I faded it out because the classical section left the song. Which then left an epic lead that dominates. I think with effects that fadeout would really be more obvious.

I tried adding a pad in the background but it didn't give the effect that i wanted. Even something as little as that behind lead at 1:13 changes the whole feel of the song. I hope you understand what I tried doing.

I'll retouch the leads and kicks again so it's fine when it's finished.

As I said in the description I think I'm finally getting the hang of mastering.
Since you said the piano sound so clear. :3

Thanks for the review, doesn't matter how long it is ;P

Love it!!!

...But i do agree with statue that the kick does need to be louder. It would definatley make this song awesome.
Great Song though

Dj-Brand0 responds:

Okay, I'll make sure I touch up the kick so it sounds even.

Thanks for the review. :D

Kick

Since this is after all a WIP, I must say from past rave experiences, that Hardstyle is a bass based genre with melody, buildup, phase, buildup, and other sorts of common trance / techno characters.

Overall, your melody is fine, but your kick overall is just not powerful enough.
If you're going for the hardstyle approach, I strongly advice that you up the kick, and the bass / distortion ( which ever you have following the kick,).

A little tip for your melody: When your melody kicks in with the lead: about 1:02 / 1:30, the melody remained untouched, Pitch-wise. You should take copy some of the notes, and add on a higher note on the final melody that mixes with your kick, to create a bit of a "buildup" approach, which hardstyle is all about.

Other than those few things, it's an excellent song overall, great potential.
Keep it up!

Dj-Brand0 responds:

Hey Splice. Thanks for the review.

I understand that the kick is a bit low, and I can fix that, same goes with the bass.
But overall I think I should have said hard dance instead of hardstyle because what i seem to make isn't really hardstyle but some type of hard genre. I guess I'm leaning towards the dance category.. But yeah, thanks heaps for the advice.

Thanks heaps!

Somewhat of a Let Down

I like what you did with the piano. This version of the piano sounds better. That pad is a little repetitive to me. Dunno how to fix it, but I still think it is. I like the bass pad at 0:14. The electronic sound at 0:27 sounded almost cheap or bad compared to the quality of the previous sounds. That was a real let down. Maybe its just the effect you put on it, but I don't really like it until it gets louder. Even still I think you could make it better. I think you should add more than just claps at 0:40 after the lull. It was kind of a let down too. The lengthen of the melody at 0:54 is a little awkward. Maybe because it seems short. The part at 1:00 should be added to so its not just that one sound. The sound at 1:29 didn't fit completely well. Is it some effect you put on it to make it sound distorted? I don't like the distortion much. I agree with the others in that the kick needs to be stronger. I think you should change it up more at 1:42 too because it gets repetitive. 1:55 is weird how you took that sound out. You might want to make it longer or just change it completely. The outro needs to be better too.

As it is now, I love the intro until 0:27. I think I like the other classical version better because it has less flaws as of now. I realize this is a WiP, but I still think you need to fix a lot of the distortion to make it sound more normal. Especially the sound at 0:27. This needs work, but as I said in my review on the classical version it could be totally epic.

By the way, have you tried changing the piano on the classical version to this piano? I think it would sound better.

Dj-Brand0 responds:

Hey Zeaklous, thanks for the nice review. I looked at what you said and I'll take it into account when I finish this.

I love the piano in this version, it's so clear. Except I haven't changed the classical version, I should do it.

Thanks man :D

\\Brando

It was missing something.

The bass pedal didn't come in until near the end of the song, and i was waiting for it the entire time. But good overall.

Dj-Brand0 responds:

It's a WiP and the bass came in at the end because that's when it was supposed to. It wouldn't have suited if i put in a kick and bass with the piano at the start.

Thanks for the review.
