Reviews for "the sniper"

it looks pretty awesome, but the anatomy of the rifle is a little wrong. For example the scope is too large for World war one type rifles, they weren't much more than a cross hair in a steel tube with a little bit of magnification. Another example is the scope's placement, it is directly over the action and would require to load the rounds by hand into the magazine. The bolt is on the wrong side of the rifle if it were to bring it up to right shoulder the bolt would point inward toward the center of it's chest, this is wrong because not only are you needing to move the supporting hand to use the bolt (forward/left hand) and then it would have the probability to eject the casing which is going to be hot into its face/clothes and generally not feel good. the last two problems are the length of the hand guard and cleaning rod ,the rod under the barrel that is stored in the hand guard, having a full length hand guard would allow for the rifle to be rested on something farther toward the end of the barrel and not actually be resting on the barrel (its bad to do so), and gives you a proper place to store the cleaning rod which needs to be just shorter than the barrel.
Wow, I wrote an entire review on the rifle and to be fair unless you're a gun nerd like me you really aren't going to care about whats wrong with the rifle or not. it is a very good looking piece of monochrome art. one suggestion I have is, if you want to show that the rifle has a bolt have the robot hold it like the robot is but in the robot's left hand and the bolt moving to the right.

Thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed response. I'm not very familiar with more in-depth gun anatomy, so it's good to know of stuff like the direction that the bolt has to be facing. Some proportions have been exaggerated for effect (like the impractically long barrel and shorter handguard), and the scope has been heavily changed to more clearly show that it is a sniper and to make it more interesting. But the placement of the scope is indeed a bit too close to the rifle. I'll try to change some stuff to improve it when I find the time. Thanks again for the handy feedback!

This has an almost haunting fell of an IG-88 prototype. It is very cool. Please keep more pictures of this quality coming.

azelinus responds:

Thanks!

Aw sweet---! Where did you get your texture brushes?
Specifically the ones you used for the metallic deails on his legs/arms---

It's cool if you don't remember/don't want to find it - just been trying to collect more lately myself.

Amazing work!

azelinus responds:

Thanks! I used this brushset http://www.shaddyconceptart.com/download
They're brushes from one of the artists who worked on last of us. I basically only used mcnulty and marlow(there's a description image there to explain them), those work quite well. Hope I helped!

It's a great piece of art, but i wonder how this robot uses scope? :P

azelinus responds:

i thought about that as well, the explanation(excuse) would be that the scope is a camera it can access. although that isnt really clear.

This picture has some very good detail! I really love how it's easy to tell its from World war 1 era, because of the extra layer of splotches on the surface, (not to mention that it's black & white) I love the scratches and wear on the robot, to show that he actually HAS fought.

I can't quite put what I like best about this picture though, but it might just be the overall design of the robot.

azelinus responds:

thanks!
