Reviews for "Succubus Gaze"

While I like your intentions, it's a bit silly to classify the views as a perv count since it's not an image but a drawing, a work of "art".

A lot of artists work very hard (no pun intended) to make art whether or not it's sexy. Don't bash them.

Sabtastic responds:

I don't think I understand what you mean.. :c
Art has a lot of purposes and it's frankly kind of silly to limit its intended uses in any way.

There's definitely no artist "bash[ing]" going on here. I'd be bashing my own artwork if I were making fun of the 'mature' content that comprises a majority of the art portal. Some of the most talented artists I've seen on this website only work with A or M-rated material.

Ahhh. Indeed- Sex sells and all that and this experiment of yours is indeed something that I've run into before (oddly enough as a bystander, which goes against the grain of my being).

I would like to point out that I probably fall in the first percentile, labeled 'other/misc' appropriately (as some might find themselves perplexed by the notion)... I actually go out of my way to sift through the mature and adult oriented content on newgrounds specifically. I look at every rating, by all means, but ultimately M/A is where it's at for me.

It's not about getting my rocks off or some such (sure, tits and ass are always great- but this is the internet after all and places like PH deliver the goods in generous portions) but instead to dive into the "meat" of artists. There's something incredibly raw and fantastic about nude art that weaves a tale about the artist more than anything.

Are they cheeky/humorous? Stiff? Passionate and considerate? Do they hold women in high regard? The opposite? Do the demonstrate warmth? So forth and so on, ad nauseum. There's many elements to mature themed art that I find are less prevalent in other types of works. There's something special and perosnal that is imbued into all art- by all means, but this beckons against one's understanding of females in general. This could, by all means, range from the completely flat and shallow "hurr durr bitch take dick" end of the spectrum and fall deep into the rosy, buttered and supple 'mystique' of female nature. Does the piece portray their individualism? Their strength? Does it show beauty beyond the palette slapped betwixt curves? The cascading instance of mother, daughter or wife. How does each thread weave into the piece? Does it show in the piece? Or is it hidden behind what is not being shown?

Sure. Sex sells.

However, not everyone is as simple as a light switch- and while I do seem to belong to the minority, I certainly hope that this line of reasoning doesn't dwindle in complete obscurity.

Good luck with your experiment.

Cheers,
-CO

Sabtastic responds:

Haha, yeah. The thumbnail thing has definitely been done time and time again on Newgrounds... Hopefully it's not SO OVERDONE that the general responce isn't 'OMG F**K OFF, NOT AGAIN'. It's not looking that way so far.

I've always been aware of how much more sexually charged artwork gets noticed, but since so much of my audience is concerned with it, I'd like to fine-tune my understandings to make myself a more effective content creator. Maybe help out a couple of other like-minded artists along the way, depending on what I find out.

I get where you're going with the 'M/A' rated artwork on this site, btw. I've noticed that a lot of very talented artists can be found exclusively there, so it's almost a shame NOT to go have a look at that section regularly because you're missing out on so much talent! Another thing I picked up is that a lot of 'adult' content seems to be commissioned work, so naturally artists try to do better when the interests of their (future or current) paying clients are at stake.

I saw one that looked suggestive but had an E rating and figured something was up. After that I went looking for the rest of them. And I'm probably not the only one that did that. Just an FYI--your survey results may not be 100% accurate.

Sabtastic responds:

lol darn - I figured it'd look fishy with such exaggerated ratings.
Also yeah, I've noticed a bunch of things that are going to potentially skew the results...

It's okay though! I'm learning a lot by observation and from people's input. c:

Your facial expression are the best part. When are you gonna post the results of these tests?

Sabtastic responds:

Thanks, and yes! I will.
Gonna try and post up a little report based on my findings / observations.

Nothing too earth-shattering, but at least helpful tips for artists trying to boost their traffic.

Interesting idea. Clever execution. More power to you I suppose.

Sabtastic responds:

Hehe, thanks <3

Cheers!
