Reviews for "Strange Fruit"

Someone shoot me

First of all that so called music didn't help the fact that 99% of the movie was just going left to right on some tree's. And if you thought that was "spooky" or "scary" then you shouldn't be on this site. Turd of the week!!!

DonQuixote responds:

If you take a closer look at the panning trees, you'll see that it's more than that. I included some subtle effects to create a "spooky" atmosphere -- that's the reason for the brightness adjustment. However the second panning trees sequence doesn't include this since it would've detracted from the events of that scene.

If you don't like jazz, then that's fine. But you're missing out on the music of the 20th century (most rock is just a watered-down descendent of jazz, historically and artistically). Perhaps I should place a warning label saying "If you don't like jazz then don't watch this movie." That would probably solve many conflicts. Basically, it's not about my movie -- it's about the music. With this (and my other animation), I didn't want to supercede the music but to add to it. The music IS the focus. My animation is, to a degree, superfluous.

Anyway, as a final thought, I'll end with this quote by Roger Ebert: "Only stupid movies are for everybody."

Excellent

FINALLY something on Newgrounds worth seeing! It was scary, but not overly gorey.
I especially like the fact that the bodies weren't too obvious. That's what made it spooky.
For once, something made without the angsty white boy crap that litters Newgrounds with its bloody nonsense and immaturity.
THANK YOU!!

yesss!!!!

billie holiday.. oOo marry me??? lol.. naah.. was pretty cool.. the style.. well.. the colors rather went with the song great.. love the music though..

WTF

WTF is this shit supposed to be about? Somebody please tell me.

DonQuixote responds:

This reminds me of the anecdote of Rock Hudson during the premiere of 2001: a space odyssey. You're no Rock Hudson and I'm no Stanley Kubrick, but the story is still amusing.

very nice!!

It was beautiful! I love poetry and when I first read this poem I loved it and now it was so cool to see it actually animated. its sad though that the poem is based on reality.
