Reviews for "intro to ballroom v.6"

Very original idea, nicely done, but needs work

I was amazed to dee a dancing tutorial on newgrounds. Since I'm a dancer myself, this made me so happy that I had to vote 3 on this submission, despite of the things that aren't too good yet.
Now for the comments. First the good things:

1. Your music choice was great. The songs really fitted with the dances.
2. Explanation and background info was very good. All very clear and easy to read and understand.

Now the things to improve.

1. The stepping-drawing at the waltz-section is way to difficult for someone who doesn't know how to dance. I do know how to dance, and still I had to look more than 10 secs to understand what you meant with the drawing. It might be better to make the steps kind op appear and disappear. This way, you can make both the leaders and the followers steps visible. You might even want to zoom out and show a whole dance with only the footsteps.

2. As previously mentioned, back-buttons and menu-buttons should be added.

3. It might be a good idea to find a more original way to show the texts. This way, one has to read lots of sentences. Most people here don't want that. If you make it more "movielike" people might be more interested in what you want them to read.

Well, I hope this helps you. I really hope you're going to put some time in this, because it really has a lot of potential. When you finish this, and put the complete version here, I'll review again. I'm looking forward to it. Do your best!!

correct

i already knew all that stuff
next time teach us the "cha cha slide"
but good work-its all correct

Steveruleworld responds:

lol, i'm on a ballroom team dude, i kinda know its correct. Also, its kinda a beginner movie, so not really aimed at us who actually do the stuff. Also, Cha-cha is latin so if i figure out and make this flash work well i may move on to latin, then maybe night club.

Well...

Well it's okay. Not bad actually. To be honest I don't like reading that much text in an interactive flash like this. But that's just my opinion. But as for the whole dance tutorial, I think it is a good idea. So then people won't have to pay for dance lessons (if they can't dance) and will just refer to this. Also, DDR's always there to help =P lawl.

Kay well, peace.

ummm

i still cant dance...... wtf omgzorz!!11!one!1!! liek omygod i cant dancerz!1!11! l1k3 wh0 w1ll h3lp meh now!1/!?1.1.211one....

Ya, honestly, it didnt help me much :| I cant dance worth shit. sorry.... but this "game" thingy just isnt me :/ :/

Steveruleworld responds:

suprising...very few of you have noticed that it is only v.6 i am still in progress of making it, but since it's a new idea and newgrounds hasn't seen this before i am trying to make it as viewer friendly as possible.

and you should also notice the message, go to a dance studio. they will help you dance.

Well I, for one, liked it.

I enjoyed this submission and I look forward to seeing your completed work. Here is some constructive criticism:

1) Try to avoid the external commentary ("since all the flash I've seen ...," and "sorry if it isn't great quality ...," for example). Stick to the lesson at hand; the other stuff is distracting and viewers may think less of your work simply because you seem to.

2) The animation was very helpful. The steps you describe are difficult to visualize (I've got two left feet so I'm viewing this as a total n00b). I'd like to see an animation for the Tango and the others, even if they're not the best. As you get more comfortable with Flash, there's plenty of opportunity to go back and make them better if you like!

3) Each screen has a "Next" button. This is great! A "Previous" button would be very helpful too. Also, there should be a "Return to Menu" or similar button. Finally, the viewer ought to be able to select a section instead of going from start to finish in a straight path.

4) Great music selections! I liked the timing counters, too; I wished they were longer (let the viewer decide when to stop counting maybe).

5) I hope you continue this project and you don't get discouraged by some negative reviews with no substance.

Cheers!

Steveruleworld responds:

Thanks for the suggestions. I am currently trying to figure out how to anime the tango. kinda hard because you kinda need a 3d image to get the whole thing. I'll work on that. Also thanks for the button idea, definately will add on those.
