Reviews for "DPulse - No Control"

Hey Gey

Well, I guess I won't comment about your percussion because apparently everyone else has already done that for me.

Now Jonathan. I've been listening to you making this for the past little while and at first I didn't know where the song was going to go. Actually, I'm lying. I just lied to you. I knew where it was going to go. It was going to go awesome.

I loved the bassline at the beginning of the song, as well as your grinding synth you had playing around 1:30. Loved it. Especially where it echoes off into a transition. However, I dislike the breakdown and the second bassline. We already spoke about it once, you and I, but I might as well cover it again since I'm in the middle of giving you a review. It goes up, and up, and up and up. And doesn't really seem to end. It has an awkward feel and seems just... amateur in comparison to the beginning.

Overall, I really, really enjoyed this track. Especially the beginning. The only other thing I would say is that you could have expanded much more on the bass fills and percussion fills. It got a bit boring to listen to the same ones at every 8th or 16th bar.

Again, great song. Hope you can make another solo track, or maybe a collab track *with me*! haha!

Why would I want to collab with you?

Well, because your FRANK! :)

As for the second bassline, I like it, but less than the first one. It does go up and up and up, but it's more original like that xD As for the fills, I like to keep it the same to keep a nice groove going.

Very nice, Very nice indeed.

The first thing that hits me about this track is how tight the percussion is. The kick, snare has a great punch and gels nicely with the hats. Bass sounds great, nice breakdown with the pads at the half way mark. Second bassline has a nice groove to it, my foot is tapping away to this tasty little number. Fantastic work, the time you put into it has been reflected in the overall quality.

DigitalPulse responds:

I really did take my time on them :). But I didn't see anything bad in your review, but still a 9? :( oh well :p

Thanks for the review,

Good job man, keep it up

DigitalPulse responds:

Great

While the entire song is amazing, I can tell you spent a lot of time on the percussion sounds. Very well done.

DigitalPulse responds:

Yea man, thanks for noticing that.

Boh!

This is amazing for a first attempt at electro-house. Up until 0:29, you'd think you're listening to one of xKore's tracks and again with 1:03. Very xKore like sound here. The groove you've got going on here is interesting as well. You don't hear a lot of new house producers making something this complex!

Though, with the good, comes the bad. Your bass really didn't satisfy me. It sounds like it's boosted way too much in the mid-section and doesn't have enough low-end bass to it. You also need to add some character to it man. It just sounds way too bland the way it is at the moment. Try adding some effects to it. For example, a chorus or a phaser. Panning can also make a bass stand out more as well. I'll send you a few tracks on msn that have some wicked basses in them that will kind of explain my point more.

That and your hatline. For starters, you used the most generic open hat sound there is in dance and the reverb on it just makes the problem more apparent in my opinion. Try experimenting with some odd sounding percs and hihats for your hatlines and add as much as stuff as you can to them as well. It just makes the track all the more interesting to listen to. Panning will also help in this department too.

Anyways man, I can't really think of what else to write as I've never been the best reviewer. Great song and I look forward to hearing what the future brings you!

DigitalPulse responds:

It was my first time trying to make a bass from scratch, I guess I should work on that, but I do like bass :) For the hi-hats, I can't say anything other than I know it's generic, I was just so tired of working on this song I just decided to post it, but yes, I need to change the sample and the pattern. I don't think I have ever listened to one of xKore's songs lol
