Reviews for "Platform tutorial V.1.3"

Alright

I mean i like the tut but i dont like the down idea, but if you made the platforms a little thicker it wouldnt go through that much. Or putting the cross of the movieclip under the character to make it stay on top of the platform and not in the middle.

Djmr responds:

Yeah, I know what you mean, I'll do that when I update

Hrrmmm...

Hokay, as a budding game programmer myself, this is a very simplistic view of the game building process. I can't expect you to go through everything about collission detection, however, it WOULD be nice if the proto game at the end actually worked.

Graphics... Um, you could've as easily done this with screenshots of your desk top. Would've looked better. But meh...

Style, Violence, Humor are all null points. Sound was halfway decent for a tutorial. Interactivity... Including links to action script... Good. Not making them create new windows? Bad.

So, over all... About average, considering. Would've been much better if the game at the end worked. But I digress.

Djmr responds:

I suggest pressing down before landing on the test, it is a common error. I did note it in the commentary.

:P You have Mistakes(not Mail~!):P

El ron be with you!
Ok, look...I can see you did your best to explain people how to make a simple game but, when I tried out the game after all the instructions, I was dying hundred times whenever I jumped to a landing space...as if there's NO landing space. Next time when you make, check over the whole system THEN submit it. But I'll still give you a good score for making hard! :)

P.S.
Voted you a 4

The only problem with my actionscripting is the powerup, I suggest pressing down before landing on the test, it is a common error.

This is bad...real bad...

Many tutorials these days seem to do the same thing, show you some big piece of code and tell you to paste it and everything will work. Well, you could have at least explained the code and told us why you HAVE to press down to "land". I don't think you really understood that code and just found it on some website...

You also could of made if easier to view the code....like opening it in a new window perhaps? Also, the code you are using is very amuteur for collisions and won't work well with objects that aren't rectangles. An explanation of the code(which was lacking in quality), decent graphics, and decent collision detection could of made this much better.

Djmr responds:

Ok, I'm taking it all into account.

_root.gotoAndPlay(sarcasm);

Okay...

1: If you knew what you were doing, you whould have made the script work so that you didn't have to hit "down" before hitting a platform.
2: You whould've taken the extra 5 seconds to put the text in a dynamic or imput textbox.
3: You whould've explaned the actionscript.
Note: Do you even understand it?

Yes, I actionscript, so you can't give me any BS. Anyways, I suppose someone out there will find this useful, but still, this was below par.

Djmr responds:

to comment on what you said, if you looked at the script, it is pretty big, and I didnt have enough room to put it in.
