I really love how you've created a reflection of the USB on the polished surface and the cord of the USB is also very impressive the way you've used shadows to show hwo the object curves.

Thank you. I did think about having it on a desk with other computer parts but the desk in the render looked a little flat.

No 3Ds Max is not free and is something like £2,000 new. Mine is from work and let me have it for a lot less. There are many 3D tools out there that are free and do very well if you are looking for one. I don't have the links but I'm sure google will show some.
