Reviews for "Alien Slayer"

Very nice:) It has a comicbook feel to it (Angel Medina's work on Spawn for example)
Also, I seem to detect a similarity between the bug and 'Magic: the Gathering' Phyrexians around the Invasion series, while the figure on top of it could almost pass for a compleated human phyrexian( such as Greven il-vec) though that may all be coincidence.
Overall a very moody athmospheric work, I find myself staring at the distant mountains and skies and all but ignoring the struggle going on right in front of me. I like the battlescene a lot but in my opinion it could use a little extra feel of movement.

Thank you for such a detailed review Ukrist. I think you're right on all counts. I was unaware of Phyrexians until the similarity was pointed out by yourself and other members here, but I certainly see it too. Good point about the movement- when my work has a percentage of the dynamism of Angel Medina's I'll be satisfied.

I find your coloring style very pleasing, great work. Although, I have to admit, it took a while to figure out what the slayer was doing on top of the creature. Perhaps a more dynamic pose would have made this great piece even better.

buriedantenna responds:

Thanks for the comment, and yes, I agree with what you're saying. As I've said in reply to another comment about this, I've been focusing on my poses and dynamism since I did this piece so improvements in those areas will hopefully be visable in my newer work.

creepy and awesome at the same time :D

buriedantenna responds:

Thanks man. Creepy and awesome are natural partners in my opinion :)

It looks like a planet filled with "fight". Fighting over and over, just a planet that only knows war. It seems like there is so much fighting going on that the ground doesn't even have time to absorb all of it. interesting world.

buriedantenna responds:

That's a very interesting interpretation- particularly that you would see the violence of the image on a planetary scale. My thinking, as I worked on the piece, was that this is an area of the planet that is a territory of these large creatures and hunting them is a dangerous business. The ground is littered with the bones of hunters who have tried and failed. It's certainly a harsh and cruel world, but I hadn't imagined that the whole planet would be one enormous battle. It's very cool to hear what reactions the image provokes in others, thanks for taking the time.

Colors and lighting execution are gorgeous, as is the general attention to detail. I feel that one thing that could use work, though, is the sense of action and in the scene. The alien seems like it's almost completely still, and the alien slayer is just chilling on top of it and not hanging onto anything for stability.

Your work brightened my day, though. Please continue producing excellent art.

buriedantenna responds:

Thanks a lot for the comment, I'm glad that my work has so may elements that you like. With regards to the action/poses in the scene, I completely agree with you. Dynamism and movement are things I've been doing a lot of work on lately, hopefully as I post my more recent work you'll see some improvement in those areas. Thanks for a nice piece of sugar-coated constructive criticism :)
