Reviews for "Drum Session"

cool

nice drumset.
i loved just hitting the keyboard numbers fast and at random, good entertainment.... can almost make your own drum-solo.

Drumming!

This was certainly interesting.

Review:

The drum picture was a bit off. On purpose by circumstance, I'm not sure. -6

I'm honestly unsure of how I'd rate the style for this. But newgrounds needs to have a rate so I put a five which is basically the imbetween number. - 5

The sound was clear and occurred perfectly when you pressed a key to iniatlize the sound effect. -10

There was no violence. -0

This was completely interctive. The whole thing is based on audience participation. -10

No humor, though it wasn't that kind of flash entry so it doesn't really matter. -0

I'd say if you put in like a song or two that the players can use the drums to play it by press the right numbers on time or something like that would be really cool. I don't want to say it like this, but kinda like a "sing along" sort of thing. This sort of flash has definite possibilties.

alright

Great interactive drum flash. I really liked the sounds of everything... I really liked how you added those numbers for the sounds.. It seemed like the sounds lagged a little bit when I tried to make a fast beat... but that's alright. nice work making this.

Great, but I'd lie if I said it couldn't improve

A particularly addicting game, but I'd be lying if I said it couldn't improve.
First off, the graphics aspect of the game. Nothing terrible per say, but at the moment it only scores average and you should push to do the best you can. I feel that you should add a background since the graphics only really consist of a drum kit - the white background looks dull against the drum kit so you should add a relevant background such as drum patterns, or perhaps even a stage and lights shining down; like you are actually there 'performing your tune'. I don't really like the paint look of the drum kit so you should make the picture a little more realistic so that the kit stands out bold and proudly against the background.
Another idea is to add a little animation of music notes when you play each instrument.
As far as sound is concerned however, it is fine and I don't think there's really anything you could improve on here - it would be silly to add music against the sound of the drums you play. One suggestion would be that you could (if possible) customise the sound of each of the instruments; I don't mean just computer volume but you could for example have the cymbals quiet, whereas the drum is blaring.
Gameplay is where this flash both really shines and where it could have a lot of potential if tweaked a little. On the whole I find this one of the most particularly addicting and unique games on NG - it's simple but that's what makes it fun, I'm surprised this thing hasn't already been done before! You have added a good variety of instruments into the drum kit and the music really flows, you can both play using the keyboard (for that extra FEEL of control) but also using the mouse, so it suites everybody's preference which is always a wise idea. Also, the replay value on this game is excellent because it has no levels or plot, so I can easily say that it is something you can come back to again and again - you can create a new beat every time! I would only suggest in that area that you make the numbers to play the drums better placed, as it has a number and then misses one out often. I think all that you need to improve on gameplay is action; let's face it this has its limits and you need to make it a little more exciting. For example add a game scoring system where you have to play combos of drums without stopping for as long as you can, and the pace gets faster and faster before until you know it, you're in a full blow-out drumming frenzy! To be honest another suggestion I have is that you should be able to hold down the mouse or keyboard button to hold the beat of the drum for as long as you want, with this you'd get a lot more control with the game and it's disappointing when you get a short burst of a drum sound. Most importantly though, there should be a recording option- you can record a tune you are playing and play it back to yourself to see how you did, and the computer would save your best tune.
Overall one of the most particularly addicting games I have ever played on the NG to date. But I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t any room for improvement. I know I have mentioned various suggestions but I feel as an author you should be open to criticism, because with a little tweaking here and there, ‘Drum Session’ has the ability to go much further. I hope you have found my suggestions helpful; and most importantly, well done :)
