Reviews for "Shades of Grey Ep. 1"

One word: Great!

This the first time I took time to review a movie, I did this because I Really! liked this movie, the style, and the fact that you called it a moving comic book:) Well done I hope to see more of this series very soon!

nice movie.

well, i know it was meant to be a black-and-white animation and it was very good, but i did miss color in this movie.
otherwise, this animation was very good. i liked it a lot.

Uh

At first all i could think was "God that sea looks crap". I have to be honest, the graphics arent that great, you can obviously draw and animate but not quite combine the both. Also i understand u want things in black and white, but why cant u have any shades of grey? It looks like an unfinished concept for a story. But again being honest, i want more. The story is intriging and i trust from your unhoned talent that your animation skills will improve so keep it up and listen to the advice people give you

Ok

right lets be honest, other than from the 3D bits the anmitions weren' that gr8. Allot of stills or changing camrea angles so u don't have to show too much of the anmitons. BUT, the story line was pretty cool, no it was bi quick. Right now there is 1 thing u could improve on. I really liked the start, who am i, where am i stuff, but u should have expanded on thatas it is a cool idea. It is a excellent start.

C'mon i am not luying when i say i am looking forward to the next 1

Its a mixed review, okay?

First before I boast and huzzah you, I have to bitch and belittle you.
Im not to fond of the rotoscoping, but thats just how I was raised. From a previous review, I read that you did make it 3d or whatever, and I didn't really enjoy the fight scenes as well. Not that they were bad, just not as.. realistic as the rest of it was. That beef is minor, this next beef is major.

The only real thing that caught my negative attention was your choice of dialogue. I know you said you were not going to do voice acting, but I found it boring that you didn't even chose to animate the mouths. I mean, I read fast, incredibly fast, so after reading the persons one line of dialogue, I still had to wait a few seconds longer to reread the wording. Thats just one man's oppinion, but I have an idea that you may or may not take into consideration.. Animate the mouths anyway, so it gives a more dynamic effect, making it seem like they are talking. Instead of a line and some text, have a line, some text, and a good amount of facial animation. It really livens the thing up.

Lastly, the boasterama. I loved the whole concept, the 'Drakins' were cool looking. The hero seemed righteous (and gnarly), but kind of like a video game character from a game Ive played, and even the other person in the animation, who speaks of the flood, looked downright cool. I intend on watching the second one and reviewing it, but right now I intend on sleeping. Haha

SirGaryColeman responds:

Thanks for the constructive critique.

I'm at least glad that you had plenty of time to read the dialogue... I was worried about it being too fast. I'm still considering the mouth movement thing... I think I'll try it out and see how it goes. If it ends up being too much work, I'll probably scrap it. If anything, I'll add more things (in the future) to look at while they talk to make up for lack of mouth movement.
