I think you've captured the essence of the game very well.
I'm one of the lucky few to have tried fallout 3 before its release, and I can only say... wow... simply... wow. You're so much into your character, and the world is beautiful and huge. It looks a lot like oblivion, even feels a bit like oblivion, but set in a post-apocalyptic world, with fallout background story and humor. Love it.
I'm listening to nothing but old time jazz-standards and swing at the moment =P
