Reviews for "Heart of Melodies (v1.1)"

beautiful

being a musician, i think this song's supposed simplicity is the heart of it's beauty. The ringing of the notes with the background reverb was amazing. however, in regards to the hiccup at :21, to me it sounded percussive, and when i heard it i wanted to hear more. If possible, I would add a very light snare drum part for parts of the song. maybe add some very deep bass drum, and a very small boys voice or womans voice singing the lyrics to your hymn. other than that, just fix the tiny mess-ups in the 1:23-1:27 area, and this song is good to go. nine out of ten from me!

Wow! Thanks for your reviews! I'll certainly look into it. They are all fantastic ideas, but the fact remains that I just don't have the resources to upload another fantastic recording. I mean, I'm trying hard and tripping over myself to get it done....we'll see what happens.

And the snare part/singing...we'll see. I don't want to overload the song. But thanks for the suggestions! They mean a lot!

wow

i have chills going throughout my body.

Ah, it happens, my friend, when your piano is a bit flat and your laptop mic isn't the best...

A good listen

Without hearing a live or better recording it's somewhat hard to critique the piece. From this recording there is so much resonance and reverb that it's hard to tell what notes are being sustained and what is the result of post-processing/environment.

I like the piece well enough, but because of the inclusion of the first part of the chorus of "Come thou fount of every blessing", the piece has a bit of a rambling feel to it. Before the weekly practice for our church's worship service, our pastor's wife would ramble on the baby grand. She would routinely flow between a wide range of hymns and personal creations creating any number of compositions. While each composition was unique and heartfelt, and touch many people who came to watch us practice, they lack the transcendence into a realized cohesive score.

That's not to say that including a section from another piece is wrong or can't work, but by placing it in the middle of the composition, the inclusion breaks up the overall flow and individual thought. I don't know, it might just be my personal recognition of the piece, but my suggestion might be to try it as either an introduction or as a coda, and see if it might work better.

I look forward to hearing your future versions.

SatoDraygonFist2 responds:

Ah! I do understand what you mean. That's why i was hesitant to try and add more onto the song, for fear of just rambling with basically the same chord progression...over and over and over.

The reason that the hymn is used so sporadically is because that's the way the song is supposed to be structured. The song is intended to tell a story about how if we listen through whatever noise there is, that we can hear some semblance of melody. Obviously this doesn't play as clearly as i had hoped because a lot of people are missing it.

Transitions, transitions, transitions! That is what I am lacking. I have a lot of vignette style bits in my head that play out, but almost no way to tie them together in some order. That's my problem with this piece, and i thank you for pointing it out to me.

Fantastic score.

I love the score as it is right now. Melody-wise you are sitting on a really really good song. Hope you get to sort out the recording quality. Would love to have this as part of a vocalized song.

Fantastic work, absolutely amazing. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen in on this.

The lower score is due to the recording quality, I'm sure v1.2 will reach indefinite heights.

SatoDraygonFist2 responds:

The lower score is alright. I'm more interested in your feedback, which, is quite encouraging.

As for vocals, the original plan was to have a spoken poem of sorts over top, but I'm leaving that be until i perfect the actual melody.

:-) have a nice day.
