I think a review a read eariler described this the best. It said he was reaching out to the orb to distract his mind. I see this in the same light, he sits alone in the darkness sitting and waiting for death to come but death will not come(From the look of his corpse like appearince) So he will be sitting and waiting,.. sitting ..and ....waiting.. Alone forever..
