well awsome piece here and i see that this one was "FRONT-PAGED" congrats on that and that was very well-deserving of a front page award, the fire like dragon is pretty awsome, nice detail nice form and love the design on this, this really does look like a flame dragon and you putup top quality with this one.
~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
Well to be honest i think you have outdone yourself and have an awsome piece here so no changes are really made, maybe some more fire like texture on hid "FLAME" but thats about it.
At first I thought this was one of the best things I've seen, then I read what happened, and the fact that you can produce this while going through all of that makes this piece even more amazing. Keep it up.
i'm sorry to hear about everything that went into this but it's the mark of a true artist who can channel their emotion into a great work
