Nice

I like the bagpipes. i dont hear that to often here that. this would realy good for title music for a game.

Draqo responds:

They are quite rare to find studio instrument wise.

Thanks for the review. :D

Pretty.

Although I really dislike the sound of bagpipe, I ignored them in order to give the rest of the pretty music a pretty rating.
I think there's a problem when the voice first comes in on the solo, it sounds dissonant... Oh well. I tend to fret over dissonance even if it's intentional and released rather quickly, so you can probably ignore that.

Draqo responds:

Can I just ignore contradicting opinions? O.o

Thanks for the review. :D

Breath Taking

Clicks or not this piece is brilliant. mind you those clicks are almost unnoticeable, but I listened to this song 30 times to get the feel for a poem that I wrote to go with it. So if you don't mind I wish to post it here for you to check out :D If ya like it you can put it with the song if ya like :D I might use the song myself for a narrative flash :3

"Norseman's plight"

The ancient grass bristles,
The horizon beckons,
The wind whistles,
All is still for those seconds.

Upon the ground lies
A brother to his people,
A man of great stature, and size.

Lost in the fight,
Yet gaining true glory.
Death for the Norseman's plight
This man needs no story.

Within all small or large,
The tale remains within all.
Of the brave chief's charge.

Draqo responds:

Actually I already began to have the choir sing words (yes software can do that) to the melody and the solo part when I was first composing the song. But that takes weeks to do and probably won't make it to the deadline, so I'm stuck with this current version. But if you want to make a narrative flash be my guest. :p I no nothing on animating or creation in flash, so that burden is all you. :p

Thanks for the review. :D

Interesting

I am afraid it is just not my cup of tea and i will not dock you for that, though what you tried to achieve came out pretty damned well.

I listened but i was unable to hear those clicks...

I like bagpipes, though i perfer them, in a more upbeat usage. But naturally that makes no sence here. I liked the synths you used as quire voices. Or at least they sounded like that to me up close. During that sort of solo.

It is kind of short, but that is okay. Anyway, nice job. Not a total piece of crap. 9/10, 5/5

Draqo responds:

Choirs are actually synthed samples (with dynamic switches to seem like the choir is taking breaths/transitioning) rather than complete synths. And yes, some people are use to bagpipes playing amazing grace, Greensleeves, or bar songs from Irish/Scottish folk music.

Thanks for the review. :D

Maeror

Nice percussion work there. Wow I'd love to have a good bagpipe software instrument, where'd you get yours, it sounds really good. Definitely fitting as a highlander's funeral. The chorus samples you used there were really good and the mood of the piece was really...ominous.

I found that it was a bit short but I was also satisfied at the end. I don't know if that makes sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it could do with lengthening but it works really well as is.

Also around 0:50-1:00, there were a couple clicks. They weren't a really big deal, but they caught my attention and I was like, "huh?"

Anyways, I really like this song and you really portray a different aspect of the competition's theme. You really differentiated yourself from the crowd with this different sounds and I think that'll help out a lot in the competition

Great song and good luck in the competition!

Draqo responds:

Good ear, those clicks were due to the renderer which are somewhat of a nightmare. This was one of about 20 outputs which was the best so far, but damn, nice catch on those clicks.

I use EastWest/Quantum Leap software for this and all my future works except for Phoenix Chronicles as that is a hybrid of soundfonts and VST's.

Thanks for the excellent review. :D
