Reviews for "Melting Coyote"

what's with the melting?

i'm pretty sure it would be as good as it is, maybe better, without those melting patterns, unless they mean something, that's another history... do they mean something?

I'm a fan of surrealism, I wasn't satisfied just leaving it as is. I thought the distortion gave it a bit more style and intrigue. Also symbolic of how native americans were slowly pushed out of their homeland, abused, and exploited over the years. Thank you for the feedback!

Amazing

I love this cause of how people can look at it in different ways and practically get the same calm feeling from it. The style that you used seems kind of creamy, and the eyes of the native american are calming. I don't really think it looks that worn and old looking as the last guy did, I personally think its a great piece but I'm actually really having a tough time describing it. All I can say is when I look at it, I can feel calm and collected. Sorry if my review is a bit repetitive; calm, creamy, are pretty much what keep coming back and forth to my mind when I look at it.

I want this as my wallpaper...

Is the cover going to cut part of his cloak away to make the square album cover look? That's a saaad. This is my favorite piece on Newgrounds that I've seen thus far (though I have had the account for about 3 days now). I haven't checked yet, but if you have other art out, I'm going to look at it. And friend you (does Newgrounds have a friending button?) so I can remember to check on updates on your art.

This is truly a fantastic piece. The faded colors make this look worn and old, the light/dark aspects make it interesting and appealing. The bleeding, melting appearance makes this feel sad as a piece. I really get a bit of emotional attachment to how sad this guy makes me feel. That's the initial impression on it, but as I look closer, there are just amazing textures on his face, cloak and feathers. This piece took you a week? Like... straight? This piece (if I were even this talented) would take at least 2 straight weeks by my reckoning. How did you actually make this piece? Did you start with a picture, outline it, repaint it, and then make it bleed? Was it another picture or did you draw it? So many questions...

But that is besides the point. I really commend you on this fantastic work.

Thank you for the excellent feedback. You can go to my profile for links to my portfolio if you wish. Not sure if there's a way to subscribe to my art on newgrounds, but if you're on deviantart I'm active there.

As for the process, it took a week on and off, but if it was nonstop I'd say it would've taken almost 2 days. This is all done digitally with a tablet and Photoshop CS5.

This was actually inspired by a sketch I had done a few years back, it might actually be in my gallery here still. I found the original reference photo I used for that, and started with a sketch. I painted over that using only shades of grey. Once finished I began distorting the image by smudging it, then going back over the smudges with detailed brush work. After finished the distortion process, I continued adding details such as the textures you see, finishing touches ec.

And yes I did have to cut out most of the cloak for the album cover. :/

Once again thank you, I'm incredibly humbled whenever I'm told my art can convey emotion.
