Reviews for "The Lovers"

A lot of things I notice...pretty well art!

1. Is that a rope on the moon that holds the boy?
2. Has the boy the same long legs like Dollys?
3. The sun is drowning in the sea?
4. Meteors hit the sun?
5. Half of sky has a storm?
6. Dolly is such a sweet sweet thing!!!
7. Will you put that guy in a Apples in tree game?
8. Wont they get sick if they stay naked in cold?
9. I still love your paintings
10. Didnt you put an apple?! How is that possible?!

Merol responds:

THANK YOU!!

1. No, the rope it's in the background and it's pulling the moon to sink it deep down in the water!
2. Heh, their legs are normal. She's not Dolly, but I'll recognise that she looks a bit like her.
3. Yeah!
4. Yes!!
5. Yup!
6. Yes she is!
7. I don't think so.
8. Yeah, but the world is about to end! It actually doesn't matter.
9. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
10. OMG! How could I?! Shame on me...

Among all that chaos...

I was about to comment on the twisted arm of the man and the strangely flat buttocks of the couple when I realized...

That's completely beside the point. You don't aim for realism.

Love the rough, strong colors of the background. And the girl's large eye, with long eyelashes...

This is, I supposed, a love story against an apocalyptic backdrop. "As the world came to an end, they embraced. Nothing else mattered... anymore..."

Merol responds:

I wasn't aiming for realism, but I wasn't aiming for a twisted arm either!! I just failed on that. Not sure about the buttlocks, they look fine to me!

Heh, some guys said her eye looks strange, so thanks for liking it!

Pretty much what I was thinking on!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Holding on for death's embrace

A very poignant image, which certainly brings home a sense of impending disaster, combined with the sentiment that love is not bound by the mere rules of time. Though the couple may perish, their love will last forever.

Looking at the image, I was a little confused about the shapes and position of the male's arm. Looking at the way that my own arm looks, there would seem to be more space between where the bicep rejoins the line of that arm and the joint of the elbow. Correcting that would help the elbow itself to look less out of place at the back of the arm. With biceps that large, it might be in favour to bulk up the tricep a little to the rear of the upper arm, adjacent to the shoulder.

The female's lines are good and the piece is a little dominated by her gigantic eye, since below, there is not really that much detail to be taken into consideration.

What does raise a question in my mind is the lines around the crescent of the moon - is that some sort of Space Elevator that you have incorporated in there and possibly a chance for humanity's salvation?

Merol responds:

Wow, thanks a lot for the great feedback on the guy's arm. I'm actually considering on getting a anatomy book.

Eyes are very important for me, and I know I already said this, but I like drawing girls with big eyes.

Heh, not at all! That's a rope pulling the moon to sink it deep down into the water!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR REVIEW!

Oh wow

What I see here, is chaos. I see meteors flying towards them, a fiery inferno, and storms. At the base of all this is a couple, comforting each other in their last moments before death. Touching? A bit, but also a bit cliche...like a typical movie ending.

The art is very good, I only noticed a few things I don't like about it. The girl looks like a cyclops, and the guys arm is deformed. Might wanna polish up on drawing biceps/triceps lol.

Other than those minor things, a great image. The background has a very chaotic feel to it, and that sun looks daunting. I think you did a great job on conveying that.

Keep up the great work.

Merol responds:

I'm not very good at anatomy :(
She looks like a cyclops? Why's that?

Thanks a lot for the feedback, sorry that i didn't write a longer answer, but i just don't know what else to say.

THANKS A LOT AGAIN!!

Progressive, meaningful.

I can see this in a gallery, among seriously professional artists' pieces. Your style is unique, but somehow, it seems familiar. In my area, there's a lot of Hispanic influence, and your work reminds me of Aztec-influenced pieces. There's a classic, very refined style to the picture, and I appreciate it.

The subject matter, while obvious, is touching. With what seems to be impeding destruction in the back, a couple takes their last moments to appreciate what means most to them. Your use of nudity is warranted, as it's not gratuitous. It just serves to show the purity behind the embrace. I adore the moon and the sun; they show two completely different sides of life-- the sun, in its positive, welcoming nature, sets, to herald the moon and its darkness: death. The clouds and the meteors seemed to take up the rest of the sky, which I think is a little much. I'd pick just one.

Otherwise, the piece is very attractive. It's polished and nicely proportioned. The only issue I have with the people is the girl's eyelash. It's enormous. Kind of distracting, but no big deal.

Merol responds:

I'm don't know how much Hispanic influence my pictures have, but i'm sure they have some.

I'm glad you like the sun and the moon! I wanted a lot of disaster in the background, I thought lightnings would fit well, and I still do! If I had to pick one, they would be the meteors, since they are crashing the sun.

Heh, I like drawing girls with big eyes.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
