This is very helpful I had problem with the file size but when I selected my sprites from the sheet after pressing ctrl B they still had the white background how did you get rid of it?

To the white background issue.
Either get a sprite sheet which has a transparent background, or use the Modify>bitmap>trace bitmap , option to trace the sheet in your scene, and making the background deletable. Sorry for not being able to explain it clearer, but im late for a meeting :P.
