The time spent is roughly 30 hours, spread over several weeks of exams. Did it in between studying sessions!
Yes, it's photoshop! Done on CS2 using a wacom intuos 4 large tablet.
There was no model: I sketched the lips and nose of the girl, and decided to complete her face and add the medic armor after seeing the awesome Blizz wallpaper of the terran marine. I sometimes use magazines and adds for references while painting!

Definitely a great way of taking advantage of the Terran Marine concept. Seeing submissions like this makes me wonder how do you manage to create such awesome portraits.
