Reviews for "Fly Away"

Amazing

That was great. You should be making movies. Just getting a couple of people together and making something like this for a short film, it'd be cool man.

Lucas

definately a must see

wow it almost made me cry

Nicely done.

Very nice piece. I liked your references to Animal Farm, I'm just now checking the book out and I got right off your refference to it and what it meant. A nice representation, good to see. I use the NG politics forums and you'd be pretty surprised at how many people think Communism is a good thing; oh they have many excuses. Anyways, I realize it's oppinion and it's conveyed nicely. Good audio choice and nice little wrap-up at the ending with the dove. Nice work.

Relevant, and yet...

It is always good to see something other than a gore soaked violence fest on NG. I think that this film is a condensed amalgomation of the author's thoughts on facist rulers of the past and the parallels they draw to American leaders of today. While a highly symbolic approach such as this is generally an effective method of handling a topic of this magnitude, some of the effectiveness is lost when the design elements fail to come together. The film was well paced for such a short run time, but I got no sense of weary tension or desperate, animalistic hopelesseness. These elements are crucial when conducting the audience's emotions. The pallette chosen was highly ineffective and the charecter design was crude, giving the film a coarse and uneven tone. The reason I give this film an eight, however, is that there was a substantial undercurrent of thoughtfulness to the piece. You could really tell that there was a true passion in this film's conception. Good, but could have been better with more polish.

Interesting...

A lot of people commented on the Marx reference and how they disagreed because of what he represented. But as far as what I gathered, this is a social commentary on what you believe america is becoming. The whole reason of stating that "Some men are equal" isn't a rip on Marx, but a simple statement of the realistic viewpoint of society. As much as we love to push and prod and try to get everyone to believe that all men are equal, men everywhere are always pushing another man down to get even higher, whether that is political, socially or even to improve one's career. So no one really lives up to that creedo. I'm uncertian if there is a straight forward political side to this animation (because I believe that the hitler is in reference to Bush) but it feels very liberal to me with hints of a moderate. The suicide equals freedom ending was interesting. I was a futile act since it did not lead to change only self destruction which is a great commentary on how many deal with such things. They ignore it or try to take the easy way out of a problem. It was a selfish act on part of that character. I personally don't have a real political stance because I think our government is filled with self serving dark entities that hide behind politcal banners to disguise their true agendas (anyone ever heard of the Free Masons?). The only beef I have is the artwork. It was artsy to a degree, but the style wasn't defined enough for me. The music was haunting and beautiful, but the art didn't feel like it kept up. But keep at it. Practice makes perfect.
