Reviews for "I Like to Hit Things"

I think I get this

Good music for casual infantile destruction. Like a Dr. Suess book.
I can't give too much comment on this, but its good.

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks, man.

Its a good song...

But, there are some problems. I noticed that the style doesn't change even in the slow parts. It's always staccato, and there's no real change in dynamics, maybe a decrescendo into mezzo piano around 1:00, keeping the bass at the same volume, then at about 1:15 to 1:33 or so, a crescendo to forte with the bass crescendo starting at around 1:23. Near 1:55 to 2:02, decrescendo the treble to mezzo piano and the bass to mezzo forte, then raise the bass to fortissimo at 2:03 and dropping it gradually from 2:18 to piano at 2:30 with the treble dropping to pianissimo around the same point. Then, at 2:36, a crescendo again to fortissimo for both, and at 3:02, make a sfortzando and start Section A again (the happy part) and bring it back up to the original forte. After that, whatever the heck you want to be there. Maybe another key change, possibly a meter change to 3/4 time! Also, I think it belongs where you originally put it: the classical section. There's no real elements of jazz in there (no swing beat, no blues scales, etc.) if you think about it. Great song, and a dl once you finish it!

WritersBlock responds:

It's got elements of ragtime...

Anyway, thanks for your comments, dynamics and all that have been noted.
Thanks!

Gentle and funny!

I can see where this is going and it's surely in the style of the original dad'n me songs. Though, it's nothing too original when it comes down the contest. It lacks a little bit of own ideas. It's just a bit too much of that style. The story behind it though is very well written and surely would fit perfect in a well made flash movie.

The soundquality on this is very good. Everything sound clean and gentle! (at least on my ears) It's sure is catchy tune as well but a bit too long for my personal taste. The time changes are a good touch but I have to agree on several other reviews that not much is going on in this song.

Baah, anyways, all in all I still enjoyed it and will give my 5/5.

A good contender! Best of luck for the contest!

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks, man! Yeah, this song has "cliche" written all over it. I played through the game a couple of times before I started writing this. The theme pretty much stays the same way all the way through, but I reached my target of successful time changes and a key change, and the variations on the theme was something I haven't done too much of in the past, so, even if I don't win anything in the comp, it was a big learning curve. Thanks for the review and the 5, much appreciated.
We've ended up with a good variation for the Dad 'n Me part of the competition. A piano solo, some drum 'n bass and some death metal. I guess those big purple thugs mean something different to all of us. I wouldn't be surprised if you won the section, with your weekly 5, and your deadset metal ways, lol. Cheers, darkside.
