Reviews for "I Like to Hit Things"

Its a good song...

But, there are some problems. I noticed that the style doesn't change even in the slow parts. It's always staccato, and there's no real change in dynamics, maybe a decrescendo into mezzo piano around 1:00, keeping the bass at the same volume, then at about 1:15 to 1:33 or so, a crescendo to forte with the bass crescendo starting at around 1:23. Near 1:55 to 2:02, decrescendo the treble to mezzo piano and the bass to mezzo forte, then raise the bass to fortissimo at 2:03 and dropping it gradually from 2:18 to piano at 2:30 with the treble dropping to pianissimo around the same point. Then, at 2:36, a crescendo again to fortissimo for both, and at 3:02, make a sfortzando and start Section A again (the happy part) and bring it back up to the original forte. After that, whatever the heck you want to be there. Maybe another key change, possibly a meter change to 3/4 time! Also, I think it belongs where you originally put it: the classical section. There's no real elements of jazz in there (no swing beat, no blues scales, etc.) if you think about it. Great song, and a dl once you finish it!

WritersBlock responds:

It's got elements of ragtime...

Anyway, thanks for your comments, dynamics and all that have been noted.
Thanks!

A very catchy and upbeat song, made me tap along. Great piano work, you can tell you've got a great sense of structure, cause the different bits seemed to meld seamlessly into one another. Really good, great job

I'm glad you liked the transitions, it would be a disaster if they sounded off, since there's so many in the song.
Thanks for the review.

Yayy

The beginning is nice and joyfull, but it got a lil' repititive in a way. I liked the tempo change you did. The second part you did was good. but repititive too. Very good job.

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks. I've updated it and mixed it up more now, so hopefully it sounds less repetitive.

A couple of duff notes, but...

I think this is a good song, but that main thing you had going against you was "1, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, % ^!" Those last two notes sounded a bit flat to my ears. Consider knocking them around a little, just to get it sounding a little better.

Yeah, I liked the tempo shift, as you played it nicely, giving the whole tune a well balanced feel. I wouldn't reccomend it as a loop though, because ti can be quite a shock hearing the slower tempo replaced by the fast stuff.

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks for the review. I'm not quite sure I understand the number thing, you've got there ^_^
But, the two notes that sound dissonant, they were meant to be that way. The dissonance was a device I used to break up the constant happy vibe, a few accidentals here and there adds cheek and makes the song much more colourful, without the accidentals, it would be the same as any old upbeat happy piano tune. Thanks for the review, I understand your issues with it, but if you listen to some ragtime music, there'll be a whole lot more dissonance and accidentals to what I used.
Thanks.

very good

I like the rhythm... it has a unique style
I mean...
the piano was pretty amazing... it started like a 'happy piano' & was pretty nice.. & kind of funny to heard it... because it was fast.. it really make you move...
and then... it gets slow & more & more slow... that was an amazing effect
sound like the pianist was getting tired, let say the pianist was getting a calm...
was an effect that you don't see on Ng all the time...

WritersBlock responds:

Yeah, I've tried to incorporate a fair few things into this song that I don't hear nearly as often as I should, and that'd be key changes (haven't done that yet, but probably will), tempo changes and accidentals, tasteful dissonance is hard to find...

Thanks for the review!
