Reviews for "Karco - Apology (Trance Remix)"

yay review

considering i alrdy listhened the rush and that other one. ( whatever that might be)
i think based upon that, this one is bad... i dont like the whole 3/4 you got going or whatever you were trying to accomplish. and those FL keys wont do any justice on piano! the bass might be a bit to bumpy. ( still an offbeat bass! lol ) drum .. wel.. its like, you need a circle for good drums, and you got a sqaure with some rounded edges. you could just strip those drums and remake them. it could make the song so much better. bass is maybe to high, so.. it lacks bass. and if bass lacks bass the bass looses its bassyness of bass so its not bassy bass. ( wait wha? ) lowering an octave might work. or just a bass which isnt just a weird boring sine bass. it could use some more structure then that. also the fx are just plain dumb. no real changes makes it boring. this isnt your best work but i keep an eye on you!
** ps. is that some sidechaining ? <3<3 ''

Karco responds:

Augh, you're reviewing all of my songs! D:

This isn't one of my better songs, mostly because it was rushed, but you can read the other responses for what I said about that. I thought the 3/4 idea was pretty good, it might be a taste thing... and I didn't use FL Keys, I used Nexus! >:(

Yeah, another offbeat bass. D:

Hmm, the drums must be a serious problem if so many people are complaining about them! D: Remaking the drums actually sounds like a really good idea, I should give that a shot with some other WIPs that refuse to go anywhere. :\

I had the bass lack influence in the low range to achieve a specific atmosphere, and leave room for the kick.

I wouldn't call the FX dumb, personally I liked the reverse crash idea... but it is lacking FX-wise too, I guess.

I guess you didn't like this one as much, but thanks anyway for the review. :) And yes, it's sidechaining! ;D

Ok...

Well, this was pretty boring. The drum beat had was too hard on the high-hats that my ears were starting to bleed (not literally). I think you should've either made the beat's volume lower, or gotten rid of one of those high-hats in the beat.

The electro side of it was ok, but the drum beat was overtaking it and to be honest, this song was quite boring. I can see you've improved immensely though because Rush is turning out great! I can't wait to see the finished version!

Karco responds:

The drums were so-so, and difficult to work with namely because this song was in 3/4 time. I know what you mean when you say the hihats were loud, some EQing was probably in order here but I didn't notice it.

This is probably not one of my better songs, and probably because it was rushed. :\ I definitel y have improved since, but I think the main difference was in the effort, not in the skill level.

I'm probably going to finish my hard trance WIP first, but I'm definitely trying to find a way to finish Rush. ;D Thanks for the review!

Agh

That straight four on the floor beginning makes the tune very very very very very boring- mostly because of the intense repetitiveness and the lenght of it. It doesn't really evolve much, there's the same stuff going for the first two minutes. About no emotion there, so it turns out to be incredibly laidback.

The structure is kind of awkward- there's this little trance doodle around for the first minutes, then it seems like you just copy and pasted the original song in there for the next part, then finished it off with the same thing as what you started off with (seemed like, I'm pretty sure that's not what you did though). It's not exactly an original twist to it (well, of course it is original, since you made the first song)

It's a decent tune and all. But not anything new or interesting. Feels rather empty, like it needs much, much more- and it really could be a fantastic tune if you really wanted it to be one. Don't know, I neither like or dislike it.

What a bleak review from my side :/

Karco responds:

Not much to say about diversity, read the below responses... :\ Laid back is a new one, I can see where you're coming from.

As I was making the song - and consider that nearly all of it, save a few volume tweaks, was made in one night - really, what I wanted to do was to FINISH something. I guess I cut a few corners by thinking that way. :P

I know what you mean by a fantastic tune, I've actually got one (in my opinion) in the works, and hopefully it won't go the way of all of my other ideas - I was able to work to a point on them, and then the inspiration abruptly stopped coming.

Not really a "bleak" review in my opinion, especially considering most of this has been said by other reviewers, which probably makes you right. :P Thanks for the review.

Nice :D

I'm typing this review as I hear the song, so here goes :D

The intro is pretty repetitive, just a kick and a hihat (before :25)

At :58, I'm starting to get tired of the bass...

There it is, I like this part (past 1:15). A heroic theme, almost. Good rhythm with the piano, it sounds great.

Whoa, is the piano reversed? As it plays with the kick and hihat! There is the beauty of the piano with the trance instruments, I love it.

Well, overall, I thought it was good, though too repetitive. There were good parts to it, like just after 1:15, and later on at 3:40 when the piano came together with the trance. Good luck with your next project(s)!

Karco responds:

For diversity, copy-pasting two comments from the previous response...

- I needed to leave myself somewhere to go, and I don't think starting right off with the bass would have been as good of an idea. Oh well. :)

- I haven't been giving myself grief over diversity lately... I kinda lost all of my will to make music a while back and the only way to finish anything is to give myself a break here and there. My standards have been a bit lower since it happened... funny thing is, my stuff since then sounds better to me than the stuff I've made before it happened. o_O

It's actually old composition. :P Glad you like it. :D

It's not reversed, it's sidechained, ducking under the kick. And yep, it's one of my favorite qualities of this song, too. :D

Well, glad you liked it. Thanks for the review! :)

Open mind review I think

Hmm, well I'll try to open up my ears more. My mind is already crammed with useless school stuff and this isn't like some debate thing. I am open to new original content though if that's what you meant. I could of listened to this song more closely with my new expensive BOSE headphones, but I need to hear the phone ring too. :) Listened using my average speakers.

Good:
1) Explosion, silent swooshes...Yes the good ol space theme. I'm quite a fan of these types of fx sounds.
2) I like the juggling panning bass. Has a nice mellow feel to it. A gentle journey through space.
3) I think you got the kick volume just about right. It doesn't really distract from the tune and it isn't overly compressed. Simply a soft kick.
4) 45 secs and enter the piano. Sounds like a grand piano with only a tad bit of artificial reverb. Keeping instruments more natural sounding is something I usually hear in classical and not trance. I say that's a good idea away from the norm.
5) I noticed both pianos are initially filtered or a decrease in volume and than after 1:29 both increase in volume. Also you did that percussion hit fade out at 1:52. I think you said in a previous response to a review I gave you that you like to do that kind of stuff now. Even at 1:40 you do some other kind of fade out. I suppose I get what you mean by open mind. There are a bunch of little tweaks you did in this song that may go unnoticed by the casual listener. I won't list them all cause I'm lazy.
6) This part had me wondering for a moment. At 3:40 the lower piano and bass change. The high pitch piano didn't change its composition which almost masked the changes in the bass the lower pitch piano. Your making this a tough listen for us listeners.
7) Heh. There is that percussion fade out again.

Ify:
1) Well that intro was like fx and percussion only. Quite a long intro too. (22 seconds) Maybe add in the bass quicker?
2) I would not have guessed the 3/4 time. However what I didn't like much was the piano pattern at 1:06. Those two pianos didn't quite mingle well rhythm wise.
3) Well it's trance. What more can I expect. However, I like to point it out anyway. This song is quite loopy/repetitive.
4) This song requires me to listen too hard instead of just enjoying the ride. I guess you can continue making "open minded" music, but it requires the listener to think too much. Make close minded songs too. :)

Overall I thought it was good and different. Different is usually a good thing I think. 9/10 review.
Bye for now

Karco responds:

You have Bose headphones? Lucky. :P I could have gotten some really neat Sennheiser headphones if I had wanted them, but I figured I need the right resources - which I DID ask for - before asking for what would make the overall sound better. ;) Responding to your comments one at a time:

Good:
1) Glad you like the FX, though this has nothing to do with my old space theme. Actually, it's been quite a while since I got my inspiration from there. :P
2) Yep, the mellow feel was what I was trying to get with this one. ;)
3) Once again, you nailed what I was trying to get! :D
4) This is a remix of an all-piano piece, so I had to do it justice by keeping the all-piano part of this song realistic. ;)
5) Are you talking about the sidechain? The piano sound ducking under the kick, and coming back up until the kick hits again, at which point it ducks again? That was one reason I asked to listen to this song with an open mind. There are others. ;)
6) Tough listen? XD Well, sorry about that. :P Read on, to Ify number 4, for an idea about that. I had the bass arp up like that on the third beat for a conclusive feel while the piano was still there... once the piano had left, though, it felt a bit less conclusive to me. Perfect for my purposes. :D
7) Yep. I've been ending songs like that lately. Looks like you like it, which means it isn't getting old (yet :P), which is good. :D

Ify:
1) I needed to leave myself somewhere to go, and I don't think starting right off with the bass would have been as good of an idea. Oh well. :)
2) Yep - when listening back to the original, I found that parts were in 3/4 time, and parts were in 4/4. I decided to go with 3/4 time, for convenience - as I could mix the 4/4 parts in there easily.
3) I haven't been giving myself grief over diversity lately... I kinda lost all of my will to make music a while back and the only way to finish anything is to give myself a break here and there. My standards have been a bit lower since it happened... funny thing is, my stuff since then sounds better to me than the stuff I've made before it happened. o_O
4) Here's a thought: Listen to this song once, picking up all of the unique parts, the quirks, etc. - then, after that, now that you know the song, you can listen to it again... and enjoy the ride - nothing will take you by surprise, grab your attention, etc. ;)

Glad you liked it, and thanks for reviewing! :)
