Reviews for "Vanguard Mercenary"

It's got potenial

if you got rid of the rotating gun and just made it a shooting game it would be good. That and some better music. It was really all the controls that you had that made it a shity game once you get rid of some of them it should be a good game.

NegativeONE responds:

Did you mean to vote 0? :S It doesn't really co-operate with your comment or individual ratings.

i dont know why..

This got 1st place. Its got good animation. Other then that it sucks.... Seriously though... The gameplay is just horrible. This is by far one of the worse games on newgrounds.

NegativeONE responds:

lol, zeros across the board. I'm sure you put a lot of consideration into your choice. As such, it can be taken very seriously. Who are you? Shut up. lol

Has potential

Good game overall but runs "slow". I have a pretty good comp and it runs "slow" even on LOW quality. Maybe that's how you intended it. If that's the case, try to make the gameplay faster next time. Overall, I enjoyed it.

As a flash movie/game creator, I can see the amount of work that went into it but many people just look at how much they like the game. So far the game has a pretty good score and made Daily Feature too.

There are a couple of things I found useful about optimizing Flash speed vs file size (in case you don't know these yet):
1)Using transparent areas and gradient colors will increase processing time - try to minimize them.
2)Using images (e.g. gif, jpg, png) takes less processing time compared to a vector image. The total file size will increase but the game'll run faster.
3)For images that have transparent areas, the edges of a .png picture seemed smoother than a .gif when imported.
4)When exporting an image with transparent areas you might find that the edges have an unexpected color. To eliminate this, change the background color of the program you are using (e.g. Flash, Photoshop) to the color of the edge. If this doesn't work, you can always change the edge using some kind of photo editing software - but that takes more time.

Hope this helps,

I appreciate your advice. Very useful, for the most part. I don't really like using non-vectors in Flash tho. I know, now, how much lag gradients create, but they just look so damned nice :'(

Oooo

It ran smooth on my computer, oh yes it did.

What you've got here is a great game, while the craft handles a bit slow, and, the hitbox is a bit off, it's amazing, crisp graphics, blue beams that sting badly, skimpily clad women, this game has it all!
Kudos for the author, if this was his first attempt on flash, but ,what impressed me the most, wasn't the game itself, it was the menu screen, and all it's options, it's more than I have ever seen a flash game, ever, since McFretn's(if that's how it's spelled) Combat instict(I & II), this is by far the most appealing flash action game around, did I mention the sweet menu screen and crisp graphics?
Yes? Well, it's worth mentioning twice, even while it makes me look like a complete idiot.

In conclusion: Ohh! Five, five all the way, I'd love to see this game on the front page, it's worth it, even with the demanding system specs.

Great work!
Marry me?

NegativeONE responds:

The hitTest's were purposely modified. Normally you get a lot of collisions that aren't really collisions (any ASer knows why), so I used smaller clips within the greater ones to define a 'hittable' area.
It is my first serious attempt, arguably. I made half of an rpg demo before this tho.
Wow, you've given me one of my best reviews yet. Thanks for that.

opmg this game is amazing

dude this game is awesome man very gj. i played for like 10 seconds before i realized it is like one of the best games. keep this stuff up.

NegativeONE responds:

Thanks, you must have a good comp. I'm getting an awful lot of flak for low framerates.
