Reviews for "Paper Sky"

Very artistic

I seriously want to see you put some of these intensely original, high-concept pieces on display at an animation festival. Your Flash movies are really special, and they don't need to be confined to this site alone. If you've already taken those steps for wider exposure, good for you! I wish you nothing but the best! If you haven't, then I encourage you to step out of the realm of animated boobies, exploding animals, feces, and customized car Flashes and get your beautiful work seen by people who aren't quite as simple-minded as many Newgrounds visitors (not to knock my beloved Newgrounds, but let's be honest... this site largely consists of fourteen-year-old boys and their like-minded seniors).

Regarding the Flash in question, I too am a big fan of questioning the monotony of this modern life. However monotonous it may seem, I think that "thinking outside of the box"--which is, ironically, cliché in and of itself, even though it worked beautifully for your movie because it was recognizable enough to viewers that it needed no explanation--has been a problem of mankind's for quite a while now. The up-to-date presentation of the day to day grind is extremely well done with the wilted cardboard. And the end is truly inspiring. I can see you're an optimist!

If there was ever a brilliant artistic mind who deserved acclaim for his unabashed appreciation for the beauty of life here at Newgrounds, it'd be you. I wish more people would take your approach.

Kick ass.

All I have to say is.......wow.

Thank you

I finally get to review something that doesn't involve a ninja making a sandwhich or super mario or "resident kupa" Thank you. I'm in your debt.

Magnificent

A while ago i was in an interesting discussion with someone who also studies architecture. We talked a lot about what defines good art and about some movies that were really original and examples. He told me to watch this flash.

After the first time Iv seen this i have to admit i found it pretty good, but not really brilliant. I dont know why, i guess the claustrophobic carbon atmosphere was kind of working against me.

Now i have seen this submission over 20 times and like many good things, the more you watch it, the more it grows on you. I think this is without a doubt a magnificent movie. I dont know if those were real carbon figures, or if you did it with photoshop, but that doesnt matter.

What matters, is that the extra value this media gives to the particular atmosphere, is unbelievably clever. Brown, boring, almost childish figures that symbolise a big city and the daily life of the working middle class man. The scene where he is in bed next to his wife and where you can see him with his eyes fully opened, while his wife is peacefully asleep, sais it all.

It is brilliant how the man came to discover something new and mysterious as he walked to the bathroom during the night. The disturbance of the entire carbon composition with some bright colours of a beautiful blue sky instead of the paper one is so touching. I also simply love how the man ignores this happening at first and continues to live his life in the way he is used to. The way his curiousity wins over the safety of the common household life is really well done (the same situation as for example in the matrix). And while the beautiful music gets faster and more aggresive, it is perfectly timed how he in the end decides to take the big mysterious step to break free out of his carbon life and away from the paper sky.

A simple story with a simple style, told with the sadness that only a mature person can posses. This is beautiful and without a doubt, one of my alltime favorites.

AloneInTheDark

Truly Magnificent

It is very rarely I give out a 10, which goes to show just how rare and valuable this creation is. First and foremost the medium itself through the creator chose to tell the story is not only a first, but vital to the story. The music was something spectacular, and the overall affect simply one of a kind, most likely never to be matched again.
