This reminds me of that old school arcade game RoboTron, but updated. I can definitely see that it was influenced by it. The ability to save at checkpoints was a much better idea than player lives.

UPD: New version without player lives. Just saves at savepoints.
You can use the slow motion ability for accurate shots and quick weapon switch. Each weapon is more effective for certain enemy types and less effective for others.

LEFT & RIGHT ARROWS - Run
UP ARROW - Jump
C - Fire
X - Slow mode
Z, V or 1..7 - Switch weapon
I - Information
P or ESCAPE - Pause/Menu
M - Mute sounds
R - Restart level (when paused)
K - Define keys (when paused)
PLUS & MINUS - Volume
You can double jump when you have it.
When you pick a jetpack, press jump 3 times to fly.
Love the Spectrum/Amstrad style graphics. Great tune also. Looking forward to playing more of this.
I played this game years ago when it came out and enjoyed it.
Recently played it again and loved it just as much as ever. Possibly the perfect level of complexity and difficulty in a side-scrolling, shoot-em-up platformer.

No, I won't replay the level for the umptieth time ... Had wished for a check point inside every level from which you could start in case of death.
Really loved this game! Awesome job. Super fun and definitely had the nostalgic vibe I'm sure you were going for. I will definitely be returning to play more of this!
