Author Comments

In 1931, Empire City was under the attack of gangsters and thugs. Your grandfather took to the streets to defend Empire City against that injustice. Now, 99 years later, you are faced with a similar task. The year is 2030 and Aliens have attacked Empire City, do all you can to stop them.

This game is a little unique in on the gameplay system works, so please read the instructions.

Controls-

Arrow Keys – Move Crosshair

Z – Shoot

Hold Z – When you get the machine gun, hold Z to fire.

Hold X – Shield. Shield is used to block enemy attacks. You can only keep the shield up for 1 second, so your timing must be on point. Using the shield will cost you three round of ammo, so use it wisely. You also cannot shoot while you are shielded.

Gameplay
The object is to scan around the city looking for aliens to shoot. There are three indicators to help you on your way:

Arrows only give you a horizontal guide of where aliens are.

Blue Arrow: Alien is in that direction, and far away.

Yellow Arrow: Alien in that direction, but close

Red Exclamation: You are on the right horizontal location, you just need to look up and down to find the enemy.

Crates and Trash Cans – These can be shot and have a chance of dropping a machine gun.

Extra Ammo – Enemies will sometimes drop ammo when killed.

I tried to get all the mechanics in place and at least one level for this Jam. I hope to continue adding more levels, powerups and enemies into the mix.

Fun and challenging. The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay reminds me of a fun shooter game I'd play at the arcade.

More alerts about where the enemies are and maybe a counter of how many enemies are on screen currently would be greatly appreciated.

arcaded responds:

Thanks for the comments. There is actually only one enemy on screen at a time.

I do plan on adding on to it. I didn't get as much time as I wanted before the Jam ended, so I really just wanted to get the basic mechanics in place.

It's pretty tricky and I think part of that is getting used to the controls. The visuals are great and the gameplay is solid. The difficulty at the start is really high tho. It might benefit from a few tutorial screens to ease the player in.

Full of potential to be really fun!

arcaded responds:

Thank you, I'm glad you past the control hump. It is a bit unique :).

If I continue with the project, I do have plans to have an in game tutorial.

challenging add up and down hints 2 and i might be able to actually win.

arcaded responds:

I'll consider that, part of me thinks it will make the game too easy, but as it grows with more enemies and obstacles, I might be needed. Thank you.
