Darktopia is a platform game about a woman trying to escape from an ancient ruin populated by undead creatures. You will play as Lorraine. Your expedition team was tasked to acquire the infamous Idol of Tavor from an ancient ruin deep in the Tavor jungle. It was an ordinary expedition until the ruin's denizens who guarded the Idol started to attack. You managed to survive the attack but got badly injured. You have to recover your strength and find a way to escape the cursed ruin. But beware, such task wont be easily accomplished!

Explore the vast structure, collect items to gain new abilities, kill monsters, acquire the infamous Idol of Tavor, and find a way to escape.

- Left / Right arrow to move
- Z to jump (in the air to double jump)
- Shift to sprint for 1 sec
- X to shoot
- C to swap weapon
- Up / Down arrow to aim up / down

This game is difficult but for a lot of iffy reasons. The biggest is that everything takes way too many hits to kill or destroy. There is seriously no reason a common enemy should take six hits to kill. Both crates and the weakest enemies take three. What this means is that stopping to fight enemies is pointless as its almost always quicker and easier to avoid them (or just take a hit). This is reinforced by the above hit point/scarce ammo issue as this also means its tedious to grind crates for ammo.

The level design is passable. It has solid flow at the start but degenerates later on as items are easy to pass over. I found myself in areas I was ill equipped to handle far too many times than I'd like with no real clear clue where to try next. The end result is a lot of trial and error and no real sense of accomplishment. The non-sequitur ending also makes the entire affair seem like a total waste of time.

Nitpicky bits:

-crates should show some indication they can be busted as you're shooting them. I hit a wall early on because I didn't realize my blaster could destroy crates and assumed I needed a new weapon for that.

-none of the items are fun to use and none of them feel unique to this game.

-mobbing the player with hard to kill enemies makes the game more tedious than difficult. And it makes the fact that the bosses are laughably easy even less forgivable. I defeated the final boss in two shots without even realizing what was going on.

alright listen up, you earned a review from me,

this game is nice, everything runs smoothly, the music is excellent, I really liked it. Now why do I only give it 4 stars ?

I suppose you guys already played Metroid or Castlevania before ? Fantastic games huh ? Very complex, with a lot of levels... you could get lost pretty easily. Fortunately for us there is a minimap. What's that ? I will repeat it for you, a minimap : "m-i-n-i-m-a-p"

I found myself lost so many fucking times and I'm not bad at orientating myself usually. A minimap is definitely what this game is missing.

Good game overall.

This game was great!

It was rather well balanced as well. I would like to see a sequel to this game.

Overall a pretty good game, a lot of time has obviously been put into this, but most of this may be too frustrating for a lot of new gamers. ( No0bs.) so, i think you should add an easy mode. Other than that, nice work.
