Our old TVs have returned from being scuttled into space and they have made a sport out of killing humans!

Play as humans to fight waves of Raybots OR play as the Raybots and build new robots for humans to fight. The best robots will be added to official campaigns! Also note - that campaign list has a yellow scroll bar down the ride side, with a lot more campaigns down below!

Big thanks to Mike for all the programming support with the API and drawing tools. Big thanks to Stamper for the player select music and menu sprucing. Big thanks to RicePirate for the intro and select screen voice. Big thanks to all the testers who helped build Raybots!

A or Z = Primary Weapon
S or X = Secondary Weapon
Arrows - Run, Jump, Drop through platforms

In human mode you can earn trophies and compete for high scores in the campaign mode. You can also browse the Boss Files and discover bosses not featured in the campaigns! Your letter grade is based on how much health you maintain during battle. Your score is based on a combination of health and time throughout the campaign.

In Raybot mode, you can edit your level, draw your own robot face, equip hats and hands, customize your weapons and record a pattern. While recording a pattern, hit SPACE to open the exit, then walk over the exit to close your loop! Every boss is a looping pattern. You must TEST and defeat your boss in order to save him, otherwise it isn't fair sport.

You unlock hats and hands by voting on the Raybots you fight in human mode.

In Raybot mode, some weapons have alternate versions. For example click the bullet icon multiple times for different bullets, or click the bomb icon multiple times for different bombs. Remember, you can equip both your A and S key weapons! When customization sliders are available, give them a try and see how it impacts your weapon.

Tap your "M" key to toggle Mute.

UPDATE (2/8/13): Turns out there was a massive teleporting bug that could result in you not being able to open the exit and close your pattern loop. I imagine this is the cause of the complaints about that issue. It's fixed! You may need to clear your cache.

while this is awesomely fun, nothing I do will let me save the fucking pattern for m goddamn robot, NOTHING AT ALL! space is doing 2 things for me, jack and shit!

still a great game, but this issue just pisses me off...

TomFulp responds:

Try the "R" key if the space key isn't working. That just toggles the exit to close your loop, then you gotta test and save.

It has potential but some of the campaigns are just straight up nonsense. Some enemies do nothing but spam every possible weapon and have no traceable pattern. It can become impossible to win a Raybot match when it becomes a spam fight. I understand if this came from the community but having it in the campaigns is a little silly. Playtesting these should immediately yield results. It's obvious while some are fun and it's a cool concept, some sets are just plain TEDIOUS and not fun at all.

Great game, but it gets boring as hell after about two or three fights, it just feels pretty dull, and repetitive.

Game looks good and sounds good. The gameplay on the human side is simple and fun. The raybot creation, on the other hand, could use a little work. At its core, it's definitely fun, and the aesthetic creation is great. I would've liked to have seen maybe a few more weapons for the robot to choose from, but it's no big deal. I think maybe being able to draw your own weapons instead of choosing from two or three different skins and maybe adding one or two more base weapons would work really well. My main issue is with the pattern programming. I think having to have players manually record the pattern themselves makes it a bit difficult to be able to actually do precisely what you want it to do. I often find myself repeating it over and over just to be able to get it right. Maybe in a future installment (or update?), it could be possible to do some simple AI programming to program the bosses (think Wario DIY) in addition to being able to manually record the boss. It's not TOTALLY necessary, but it would definitely alleviate some frustration with programming the pattern. What REALLY frustrates me, though, is this one bug that seems to have been mentioned in the author's comments and supposedly fixed. After lord knows how many tries, I FINALLY nail the pattern I want and try to open the exit to close the loop...but sometimes it won't open. I'm not sure what causes this, but after pattern testing for a certain amount of time, I am unable to open up the exit to finish the loop. Furthermore, whenever this bug DOES occur, ANOTHER bug occurs where trying to play as the human instead causes the game to bug out (doesn't spawn the level, game is basically unplayable until you quit the fight), and the only way to fix both of these is to reset the game. It's annoying enough to make me want to stop playing whenever it happens.

Simple, fun gameplay on human side
Fun to test out people's creations
Raybot creation is simple and intuitive and also fun.

Raybot weaponry could use a bit more aesthetic customization, and maybe even a few more base weapons
Having to manually record the boss patterns can be a hassle if you want precision
Nasty bug that basically makes it impossible to play the game

Overall, a pretty fun game that, with a few improvements, could really be awesome and live for quite a while.
