IMPORTANT: If you get a glitch as demonstrated here (http://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=opDgxCm9ij4) upon beating the game and then trying to play again in one sitting, please PM me (Bcdefg123). Neither me nor 3D-xelu can replicate it.
5th place in the Game Jam according to Edmund! And apparent fan favorite! Thanks for your support!
Latest version: 1.3.3 (The DiMono update): The time you see you got after the game is now the time you submit. I also fixed an error upon restarting that didn't seem to affect anything, but still.
3D-xelu has made a video walkthrough for this game: http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=l87O_xOAvv8
*whew* Ok, so this is Team Moose's Game Jam submission. We had four people, but the only ones who did anything worth discussing are me (bcdefg123) and 3D-xelu.
3D-xelu had this idea, and he did all of the art, found the music, and for the most part spearheaded the project. For three days I spent virtually every waking hour on this project with him, and we are both pleased at the end result. If nothing else, it certainly is the nicest looking of the Game Jam games XD Anyway, I truly am VERY, VERY grateful to have such a talented teammate... there were also two absent ones, but hey, who cares about the details? And I'm just glad I was able to keep up, especially in that climactic final hour of the competition where we were both madly trying to get things done.
Anyway, enjoy.
Stuff added since the Jam (so you can get an idea): Medals, Wuss Mode, Scoreboards and Timer, go back to menu buttons, control scheme tuning, pause button, mute button, making HUD stuff semi-invisible when flown under, core and collision tweaking, breaking the end of the game and subsequently fixing it :P
Some Half-Life 2 sound effects are used, and are property of Valve.

trial and error "lazors"
I'm not going to sit through the game over and over again just to see where these lasers are going...

This was nice effort, but
This is more glitchy than a Gameboy soaked in water.
I can't go left, if I press left and z I go right.

Nice...but
The games and music is nice and all, and thumbs up for story, I think its the best part and hilarious actually it perfectly describes what we have in mind when it comes to heroes in videogames.
But I had a problem and it seems the medal system is a little glitchy i already finished the game, saved the world, hoorray and whatever, but didnt get the WINRAR medal, BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD medals, even though i finished it under 2:20 actually 2:14 min its even there on the highscores of this day.
Not really that I care. I'm using Google Chrome as the browser maybe its Chromes fault, but still something you should check. Dont know under what circumstances this glitch is triggered, i lost a lot of times before finishing the game, maybe thats the problem the time count continues even after dying?
Great game, I love shooters, good for killing sometime, keep up the good work.

American Bullet Hell
That's a good way of describing this. First; I'm impressed that you guys made this in 3 days. Holy shit. I wonder what you guys could make in a month. Graphics, music, controls all great. I liked the idea behind this, and I also liked how each section had its own lifebar and you could destroy each part. Nice touch. I've played a lot of shoot 'em ups and bullet hell games; basically anything made by CAVE that's emulated, plus Gradius, Abbadox, Lifeforce, and the two Neo Geo shooters Blazing Star and Pulse Star. So this wasn't that hard in comparison.
I'm starting to notice a lot of retro revival games are going more toward the muscle memory route where memorization and reflex is key. Especially in a game like this. Great stuff guys.

a simple walkthrough....
i can say i beat the game (2:22 seconds) and here is how you can too!
this will be broken down into the 4 sections:
section 1: missiles. simple loop around them and after a few seconds they auto-explode. rinse, recycle, and repeat till the section changes.
section 2: lasers. this one is a bit tricker so practice and follow the guide as best you can.
shot 1: get in the middle all the way in the back the lasers will be above and below you. when the lasers fade time to move.
shot 2: go either above or below (i recommend above) and as close as you can to the machine. there is a very small sweet spot where you can shoot the machine with both the gun and missiles. when the lasers fade get back to the middle, all the way into the back.
shot 3: this is a 4 part shot so be careful. part 1 the bottom laser cuts down and the top laser does not move. move down with the bottom laser. part 2, the top laser closes in behind you. part 3 the top laser moves to the top of the screen. move up with it. part 4 the bottom laser moves up to trap you inside. again there is that small sweet spot where you can max out your damage on this section.
section 3: shoot and follow. this section will shoot at you where you currently are. meaning if you move, that shot will not hit you. be warned, this section will keep shooting at you. keep moving (sometimes ducking through the shots) and you will be fine.
section 4: big laser. this is the easiest of all the sections. just duck to the top of the screen and keep shooting. as the laser fades duck down to lay on the damage.
now that you have gotten through all of those sections, back to the first one. here are the differences when in the second wave. in section 1 the missiles linger around longer, not a big issue except when going into section 2. in section 2 the lasers follow the same pattern, only much faster! so get to your safe points quick. section 3, the bullets are closer to each other. harder to get through them. section 4, no change, still a big laser. if you defeat a section, it will just be skipped. i dropped them in the order of 2,3,1,4.
hope this little walk through helps you beat this tough game!
p.s. if you found this helpful or something you would change in my descriptions, send me a message so i can better describe these games in the future! thanks!
