A truly great waste of an hour
It's been a long time since a game's made me want to keep playing to the very end and even longer since I've written a review but for this I had to.
Graphics:
- Simple but sharp. Loved the contrast of the blood to the level, and the fact that it was persistant. I could even measure how well an elevator had done by how close the blood splatters managed to get to it.
Gameplay:
- Some people mentioned that there were too many enemies at the beginning and also that the pistol became useless. I thought the ramp up in enemies was decent and in fact easy for around 2/3 of the game as long as you purchased the elevators straight away and got some guns on them.
- I also don't think the pistol guy was totally useless as he was making a difference for me almost right up untill the end, however he was pretty linear with only the pistol to choose from.
- I both think you should lower the cash received and also that you should'nt. More than once I felt comfortable only to have to frantically move elevators to get the best elevator I had and the guy with the pistol defending the strongest waves. That being said, I really loved the new dynamic of moving elevators to their best positions but felt it wasn't used to it's fullest.
Music:
- Decent, repetitive music that I thought went well with the game.
Improvements/ in the sequel (I hope there is one!):
- Upgrades on the guy/guy's weapons; he really is kinda boring at the moment and even something as simple as upgrades on the pistol would make players want to use him more.
- More levels: I was really frustrated that at the end of wave 15, (after earning over 100k) the game ended. I didn't even manage, let alone need, to upgrade anything to level 5, in fact I did wave 15 with nearly every elevator with lvl3 rocket, lvl2/3 laser & lvl3/4 machine gun. It made me wonder why is level 5 even an option? Just going to wave 20 would've given the game a more 'complete' feeling.
- Turrets: I found the power blast turret pretty pointless, but that's just my experience, I could be wrong. But perhaps you might lower the price on this turret as for me it just was'nt worth $1000 as I just didn't think it even did anything.
Overall a great game that I really enjoyed and would love to see a sequel. I think you've got a great idea going and at least for me, not much more needs to be done.
A truly great waste of an hour, that felt like half as long.
