TIPS:-

Move the mouse further away from the dial on the safe part
Walkthrough is on my site!! Under my profile

This is my first attempt at an escape em up/adventure type game, I had quite a tight deadline and it took around 3 weeks from start to finish to create the game, the graphics, the sound fx and music (with a lot of late nights and a weekender) and it was inspired by the movie "The Thing"

I used SwishMAX to code the game in, Cinema 4D and Photoshop for the graphics, FL Studio and Audacity for the music/sound fx!!

I wanted to create a small scifi/horror point n click type game as something different from my shootemups and hopefully learn some new coding stuff along the way (as I'm primarily an artist) anyway I did learn a lot and hope to create a sequel soon so your input is much appreciated!!

I might write a walkthrough if it seems like one is required but I doubt it will be ;-)

I hope you enjoy it, either way feel free to provide some feedback!!

Thanks,

Psi

Massive THANKS to everyone who's played and rated/reviewed the game so far, I have had some great feedback and will definately be taking it all on-board...Merry XMAS to ya's

"Looks nice..."

... was my first thought. "Frustrating" was my last.

I'll start the rating in the middle, five stars. =5 Stars.

Plus five for the graphics. They are great, and so is the stuff on your site. =10 Stars.

Minus half a star for the flashlight, it looks terrible. =9.5 Stars.

The temperature gauge is ass! Minus one star! =8.5 Stars.

Minus two for the steam puzzle! You have too little time to solve it, and you go back to the generator room when you fail. It's extremely annoying. You don't seem to have any problem with coding, so add a retry button.
Many of the pieces look exactly the same, but they don't fit in the same spots. That doesn't make any sense!
I've never had to repeat a puzzle so many times before, but when I finally got the pieces in place, I failed anyway! Because the steam needs time to reach the other side! Fuck! =6.5 Stars.

Things I think are odd:

Why does the fuse box have so many useless cables? One who is not so well versed in the art of fuse boxing, could easily do something wrong and get fried, possibly blacking out parts of the base. That mustn't happen in such a remote location.

What kind of assbacwards combination lock is that for a safe? If you just have to match the numbers, then anyone could break into it. Then there is no point in having a safe.

I like the idea of finding clothes to keep warm, but curry mints and pies? Warm liquids would work better, like finding a bottle of cold water and then warming it up somehow, before drinking it.

Why is there a door that locks when the power is cut? When you lose both heat and power, you don't want to be locked out of the generator room.

Why the security? An automatic door, a safe and a gun on the north pole. Last time I checked there is no crime up there. For weapons, flamethrowers and explosives would have made sense, but a handgun? How is that going to move thick layers of ice? Maybe a shotgun would work for frozen locks...

It is a nice game, overall. The frustration comes from the two puzzles in the generator room. Their not hard, but the timer is fuck.

My rating ended on six and a half. I'll round it up to seven. The game deserves better than six.

I'm gonna play 2 and 3 now. I hope you removed the temperature bar like you said in the comments.

"Great job!"

I played this a while back on MySpace, but it was very buggy there, so it's great to play a good version of the game. This is a VERY hard, but very fun game! It plays to have a well working mouse, ha ha! The grapocs are great, the music is moody and scary and the controls are good. It's a great challenge! I look forward to more!

Realism kills a game. And in this case, it does. The body temp gauge, while realistic, gets very frustrating as you try to keep it up. It wasn't quite enough to ruin the game entirely, but it did take of a point or two. The puzzles, and exploration and overall presentation far makes up for it though. Nicely done, but I think your Ghostscape one was better. You should make a sequel to that one!

Author's Response:

Yeah, I have removed the temp bar in future icescape games ;-)
