DarkPlace also represents one of my experiments to craft a quick gameplay experience driven only by the player's enjoyment of the basic activity - free from the artificial gameplay motivations of score, powerups, upgrades, unlockables, or plot revelations. I would rather play something that's inherently amusing for a few minutes than spend days repeating menial tasks just to earn achievement points, level up a character, or achieve a high score...
